Yes it’s sad. For Sam, for the team. I enjoyed watching him play.but I’m not as sad as I am pissed off at him. When it’s all said and done, if he takes responsibility and picks himself up and dusts himself off, and makes something of his life, I’ll say goodonya. I won’t forginve him though. Lots of cliches here so I’ll add one more, There is no I in the word TEAM!

There is no I in team. but there is ME!!!

Well, to be clear, I'm not sure whether those tests can really be called the "A sample" and "B sample". The positive result was from his 200m heat, while the clear result was from the (infamous) 100m final.

Another example is Marion Jones, whose A sample at the US Champs in 2006 showed EPO, while the B sample did not. But later she admitted taking steroids before the 2000 Olympics...

Back in 2006, Wendell Sailor was banned for two years from Rugby for testing positive to Cocaine on matchday, despite his claim that he had not ingested coke within 96 hours of the game.

Note, back then, 2 years was the maximum ban, it's now 4 years.

In 2015, WAFL footballer Dean Cadwallader copped a 4 year ban for testing positive to coke on grandfial day. https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/wafl/wafl-player-dean-cadwallader-cops-four-year-ban-for-positive-drug-tests-ng-5614abfb90c1238ea2cffa1e137fefa3

Yes Cadwallader did cop four years but he also had a previous conviction for steroid used for which he served two years.

Can't see the AFL pushing for the max (four years) and a year out of the game should be enough to appease ASADA/WADA. Many similar characteristics with the case of British Super League player Adam Walker who was banned for 20 months.

https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1069220/walker-becomes-latest-rugby-player-sanctioned-for-doping-offence-by-ukad

With backdating Walker will miss the entire 2018 season and be back by April 2019.

I believe he also argued depression and anxiety at his hearing which may have gone towards reducing his penalty.

Sam Murray case nears conclusion

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/sam-murray-case-nears-conclusion-20190503-p51jsa.html

P. Ryan says: "Murray is no longer on the Magpies' list but Magpies chief executive Mark Anderson promised that the club would support him when the positive test was returned..."

Really?!

Collingwood's Sam Murray should know soon what penalty, if any, he receives for testing positive to a banned substance on match day last August.

Then he says;

Murray is no longer on the Magpies' list but Magpies chief executive Mark Anderson promised that the club would support him when the positive test was returned after recruiting him from the Sydney Swans at the end of 2017.

I think he's got it wrong. Pretty sure he's still on the list. And if he wasn't then wouldn't he no longer be Collingwoods?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens here. Hopefully it's better news. I guess the worst case for us, is we get another mid season pick?

Jon Ralph saying we could hear in late June/early July.

Also that they're hoping for the 2 year suspension which will save his career. And Collingwood will rookie list him and be available for selection next June if this happens.

Mid Season draft tomorrow. Nothing on Murray. However, it looks like we might not be using the selection we have for Dunn anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Still, it'll be nice to know whats going to happen. Pretty keen to have this over now.

Promising that the club would ‘support’ him doesn’t mean re-list him. Highly questionable if he would be good enough to get a spot back on our list. We owe him nothing. He made a stupid mistake. If he’s surplus to our list
Needs there’s no way he’ll get back. I’ve no doubt we will help him with life after Collingwood though.

after Gavin Crosisca I expect there will be a lot of support and understanding regarding Sam. Too much rope? Time will tell - some things cannot be fixed despite good intentions but they must think it worth a shot. I expect he gave some convincing interviews and has good intentions.

Is Murray AFL standard? I thought he showed a bit in his short time at Collingwood.

I thought we'd found a steal after the trade we made.

I really hope he isnt given 4 years. Ideally he gets 2, which means he can return in 2021.

I dont think its a good sign its taking so long. As supporters, we deserve better.
