^ Or there might also be an outside chance of him deciding not to play basketball because it's such an appallingly dull game. Sometimes the things that people will do for money are surprising - being satisfied with playing basketball for a living is right up there with being cool about being a public executioner for a living.

Also, the talk is that Alex Condon's basketball career is going nowhere, and he is very likely to be playing for us by August. Seriously, if this eventuates, we will go back to back to back to back. Bring it on.

You really think Condon will make the team in 2024?

All I've been told is that Conden is unlikely to get drafted to the NBA. If that pans out as expected, he is likely to become available for us as an international rookie. All we can do is hope. From all accounts, if we drafted him in July/August, then he would walk straight into our side. Fingers crossed that's what happens.

Just butting in here (rudely, not rudey😀), I read or heard that we wouldn’t know 100% about what he is doing until about May.

I have NFI how the NBA draft works but this says he isn't even eligible until 2027 Confused

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Alex-Condon/Summary/205399

Why wouldn't he stay in College, get his qualifications (for free) then if he misses the NBA in 2027 we can pick up up as a 23-24 year old if we still want him.

Sorry guys, but I haven't heard anything new. My last info, from several months ago, was that he was unlikely to make it in the NBA, and would then be selected by us as an international rookie. Hope it works out that way.

There are 350 Div.1 basketball teams in the United States across 32 conferences. The NCAA is the governing body that sets the rules and regulations for all Division 1 basketball teams.
The competition heavyweights are dominated by the colleges with the legacy endowments.

The NBA draft consists of two rounds annually, and sixty players are selected in each draft.
According to a study conducted by the NCAA in April 2020, of the 540,769 male high school basketball players, only 18,816 go on to play at the collegiate level, or 3.5%.
According to the study, only 1.2% of the collegiate players make the jump from college to the NBA.

So if he's retained on the gators roster, he'll have a degree in 3-4 years and he'll have a clear indication of whether he's a chance or post that return to Aust if AFL is indeed an option by then. CFC would need to ensure he at least keeps a practice Sherrin nearby.
With a month or so left of the college season, while his stat's aren't indicating NBA potential, it might be enough to suggest that he'll stay on the Gators roster next season.

Maye that's part of Wrighty's sabbatical, go over and convince him otherwise...

Extract from Wikipedia re NBA draft: College players who have finished their four-year college eligibility are automatically eligible for selection, while the underclassmen have to declare their eligibility and give up their remaining college eligibility. International players who are at least 22 years old are automatically eligible for selection, while the players younger than 22 have to declare their eligibility. Players who are not automatically eligible but have declared their eligibility are often called "early-entrants" or "early-entry candidates".

"Each club is allowed to maintain a list of up to six eligible Category A rookies and three Category B rookies."
