So amongst the stalls and merchandise sales and stuff out at Gosch's paddock yesterday, the man Joffa was flogging CDs with a 'rock' version of our great club song. I picked up a copy coz you can never have enough Goodbye Dolly Grey in your CD player.

The CD was certainly an interesting interpretation of the song.

But this got me thinking - Melbourne is such a massive football town, and the Pies have been singing the same song for well over a century .. are there any other versions of the great club song floating around somewhere? Surely some bright spark somewhere has written a symphony or a death metal rendition or something?

Also does anyone know or have access to the music itself - I have tried searching the internet without much luck and it is taking me ages to work it out on the piano. You'd think for such a popular tune someone somewhere would have posted the score up on the net.

Here's a scan of the original sheet music for "Goodbye Dolly Gray" - too many notes for my liking! Embarassed

Smacker Fitzgibbon used to do a cracking version of it. Another great rendition of Goodbye Dolly Grey can be found in the 60's film in which Michael Caine starred, Alfie (band played it whilst a fight was on in the bar). Another version can be found in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

try that link. if it dosnt work, just get onto YouTube and type in Good ol Dolly grey by Queenie Watts.

I believe the footage was taken after the last Nicks get together when 3rd degree tried chatting up Hiss' missus. Look very carefully when DTM gets picked up by Stui. You can see the fishing wire as he is launched through the air! Laughing

You can hear another version in the original film 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' from the 40s.

There was a Mike Brady version around in the mid 80's.
Me and Turtle sang it constantly during the finals.
It went something like this.

Well we all know that this team's a legend,
It's the biggest and best, that's understood,
so we give our support, to the kings of the sport,
so go out and win Collingwood.

Well there's no team we'd rather see winning,
and there's no team that likes winning more,
when its all said and done, and the premiership's won
it's Collingwood forever more.

Good Old Collingwood forever
they know how to play the game
side by side we stick together
to uphold the magpie's name
hear the barracker's are shouting
as all barrackers should
there is just one team we favour
and its Good Old Collingwood.

Thanks guys that is exactly what I am looking for

What's the deal with this?

Good Old Collingwood forever
they know how to play the game
side by side we stick together
to uphold the magpie's name
hear the barracker's are shouting
as all barrackers should
there is just one team we favour
and its
Good Old Collingwood

I have heard stories about the club song being changed in the 80s. It was Ranald McDonald's boys that did it wasn't it? I hope you lot kicked up a shit storm because 'there is just one team we favour' is piss weak in the extreme.
