I'm not sure how "foul" the weather is actually going to be. At the moment, the Bureau of Meteorology predicts a maximum of 15 for the Melbourne forecast area on the basis that the weather conditions will be:

"Partly cloudy. Scattered showers with possible hail. Winds southeast to southwesterly averaging up to 35 km/h."

Just revised (at 4.05pm Wednesday) to:

"Partly cloudy. Showers with possible hail, becoming less widespread by early evening. Winds west to southwesterly averaging up to 25 km/h tending southerly up to 35 km/h during the morning."

As for the likely quantity of any rain on Saturday, the forecast for Saturday, as of this morning, was for between 1 and 5 mm in the Melbourne forecast area, with a 75% probability of at least 1 mm but only a 25% probability of at least 5 mm.

That is, the present forecast is for only a little rain on Saturday.

That will be updated at about 8pm tonight (it is done twice a day). Realistically, by the 8pm forecast on Friday night it should be fairly clear what the probability of rain is, and the likely extent of any rain, on Saturday.

In case anyone wants to have a look at this for themselves, the relevant link is at:
http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/rainfall/pme.jsp

Based on this Friday morning's forecast for Saturday, there is a 75% chance of more than 10mm of rain and a 25% chance of more than 15mm: hence, the Bureau is predicting "Morning rain then showers", "Partly cloudy. Rain, tending to scattered showers around midday with possible hail. Winds west to southwesterly averaging up to 25 km/h tending southerly up to 35 km/h during the morning."

So it sounds like it will be wet underfoot but there may not be much rain at all during the match.

The last official rainfall forecast before the game (5.33 am today) still predicts between 10 and 15 mm of rain for the Melbourne forecast area. However, the probability of significant rainfall has been reduced since yesterday (now only 50% chance of at least 10 mm and 25% chance of at least 15 mm). Also, the weather bureau has now focused its attention on the eastern suburbs, rather than the central Melbourne area. The summary is 13 maximum; rain, easing later. The official forecast is "Cloudy. Rain, easing to isolated showers later in the afternoon then clearing overnight. Winds south to southeasterly averaging up to 30 km/h."
