Quote:
A judge in Alabama has cleared American Gabe Watson of murdering his wife on their honeymoon on the Great Barrier Reef in 2003.

Watson was facing a murder charge in the US after already serving 18 months in jail in Australia for the manslaughter of his wife Tina during a scuba dive on their Queensland honeymoon.

Prosecutors in Alabama alleged Watson drowned his wife to collect on her life insurance policy.

However, the judge in the trial today ruled there was insufficient evidence for the case to go to a jury, and acquitted Watson of the charge.

I thought this would happen. It was pretty obvious that he probably did do it, but there wasn't a great deal of evidence or proof.

I feel sorry for her family.

Excellent decision. If you were going to knock you wife off why would you do it on the honeymoon? Bad diving skills, panic, poor decision making.

Yeah, perhaps negligent manslaughter, but certainly not murder.

I'm a bit more shocked that Wood got off in Sydney. Shocked

Gabe Watson had done 55 dives vs his late wife's zero. He knew what he was doing and I don't buy his story for a second. He is a scumbag, and I'm very disappointed the jury wasn't even allowed to make a decision in this case.

Also, and I realise why it wasn't admissable evidence in the trial, but the fact that he was filmed trashing his wife's grave, removing flowers her parents had left etc - truly disturbing.

I didn't know that. I agree it casts doubt on his innocence.

I just read the summary of the three judges decision to free Grant Wood.

There probably was enough doubt in that case.
