Great game to be at the Eagles are the real deal, But you got some of the best divers who would make the italian soccer team proud in Darling and Schuey. I am glad we know how to win tight games.

We missed Pendlebury today, no doubt about it. You could argue they were missing Embley which is somewhat similar but to put it simply, Pendlebury is a more influential player and I think would have made that couple of goal difference.

Missing Pendlebury and missing Andrew Embley are not even remotely comparable. Pendlebury is the best player in the comp, Embley is borderline best 22 at this stage of his career.

Actually I totally disagree. He obviously thought the guy was in trouble.

Can't remember who it was, but remember in the last two years some time an opposition playing being really hurt, out cold I think, while their players left him on the ground one of our players was frantically waving their arms getting him help. It hink maybe Luke or Beams. Both proud moments for me. It's a game, not as important as life and death. Dawes has som much gentlemanly class as a human being. Bucks has him playing different roles. It will come. I believe in bucks judgement.

And as for the flak he is taking, he took two of the first marks of the game, and one was not an easy one. He also did the ruck in the dying moments, and all ours players stood tall then.

Every time our forwards (Cloke and Dawes) went to mark, an eagle had their arm wrapped up their back. How do we not get holding calls for this, it's utter bullshit that you can do that but not tap a guy with a hand in the back.

Which by the way, one of our players was penalized for, but it was a shoulder, and should not have been paid, they got a goal from it.

For mine the much maligned players of the past few weeks, Harry, is well and truly back, only one silly thing today, the rest pure magic to watch. Cloke, those five goals mean far more against the eagles than buddy bullshit 13 against a VFL standard team. Dawes has a way to go to be what he can be, but he was not bad today.

Also Maxy, as someone Stui think said, back to his roving the back line do or die death defying saving dives, 2010 best. Brilliant.

I really don't want to be negative at all, but Marty really had a day to forget, and Bucks, well I saw one player look at him with no one around him, and choose to go to someone else, not so free. He try's, he really does, but I just don't think he has enough skills for his will power to cover. It's a shame.

The way we fought back, the eagles had at least three soft frees that directly got them goals. I'm proud, I'm happy, I'm looking forward and daring to dream.

And Jack got it one hundred percent right.

The umpires hadn't blown the whistle to stop. The Eagles players grabbed the ball and went right pass Dawes and moved it into their forward line! He wasn't chasing or tackling, No, he was seeing whether the eagle player was ok!
Why didn't the bloody eagle players stop and help! Your attitude is amazing. It is symtomatic of why Dawes doesn't crash packs or bumps opposition players out of the park. He is a gentleman! LOL. Did any other person see what I saw - I still find it hard to believe what I saw!

Watched the last two minutes on the Collingwood website.

In particular two performances that stood out:

Chris Dawes: Battle manfully deep in defence against the best ruck combination in the league.

Steel Sidebottom: Bravely got the clearing kick out of defence then 15 seconds later he had the ball on the wing as the siren blew. Gut busting running at its best, he had already had ran about 15-20 kms for the game, yet no other mid could keep up.

Watch it.

True. Those one percenters that Dawes is famous for on Nicks mean that he contributes for about 10% of every game. Razz

I've seen many a player go down and the ump not do a damn thing. I still remember Seeing the sickening Blake Caracella incident, the umps did not blow the whistle and he just laid there whole NOONE tried to help him.

It took Dawes maybe 15 seconds to check if he was ok. If 15 seconds costs the game, we need to look further into our selves.

There were plenty more incidents that happened that took longer than 15 seconds that cost us points yesterday, and his actions DID NOT cost us any points.

And he does tackle and go into packs.

The ridiculous bagging is getting , well ridiculous.

That's your whole problem with the game? The one we just won against the other real form team of the comp? Really?

He's a good guy, busting his gut, his form is coming back, as he learns his new role.

Too many Forget he is only 24, At 22 he was doing amazing things, now Bucks has him trying to do a new role. Every time he goes near the ball in the circle, he has two guys hanging off his arms.

Yeah, this year I bagged his marking and second efforts, but not the last few games. His marking has markedly improved, and his 2nd efforts are there to see, just open your eyes.

Watch the last two minutes of the game we won by three points, watch the ball up in their square.

Hearing a lot about how the eagles are the real deal, have no fear of the G, will be a real threat with a few players back and all that. Well that's ok, we'll just keep plodding along winning games with guys like Pendles, Sinclair, Tarrant and Dids to return and while other guys like Shaw, Reid and Tooves quietly regain match conditioning. Yeah, keep talking everyone else up, we really don't mind Very Happy

Well the replay is just about to start on Fox Footy.

Pointed out to me yesterday by a young pie fan, Two players out there with long sleeve jumpers have reverse numbers. Dawes 31, Thomas 13. Great observation. Very Happy

Was at the game yesterday and what a nail biter, knew they were gonna come in the last quarter as they had the scoring end (yes there was one yesterday)

when they regain a few players as we will, I think they are gonna be premiers (Hope I am wrong).

I feel we are one maybe 2 good forwards away from being a premiership team.

we desperately need the Krak, with his 3 goals a game could prove the difference.

Read my original post you blithering idiot!

jack_spain wrote:
Oh those are the sort of wins I hate having to experience, but they are just what the doctor ordered in preparation for the finals. We better get used to it. We play the Eagles again in Round 22 and we may even have to play them once in the finals before we both meet again in the Grand Final.

Because mark my words folks, there is daylight between these two sides and the rest this season. Daylight! Last season was different. We grew more complacent with every round. We seemed to have an easy run of things (few injuries) and looked almost certainties until the final stretch.

But this season has turned out like none of us could have expected. Injuries aplenty! Our form slump was at the start of the year and we seem to be getting better each week. Last year we played like millionaires squandering our chances. This year Nathan Buckley has instilled an IRON WILL. It doesn't matter who is in this team, everyone at Collingwood believes we can win.

Just imagine how good we will be when we have our chief play-maker back. Pendlebury will be joined by Tarrant, and later (hopefully) by Didak. We could have done with Sinclair's energy and goals on the forward line today as well (I never thought I'd say that).

So what of today? Can the Eagles play better? They sure can and will. They could only play as well as we let them today. Can we go up a notch? How about three notches? Seriously.

What a great game of football! What a great will to win we saw on display in those last 3 minutes! We saw two young kids today who were nothing less than heroic when the pressure cooker was turned to max.

(1) Jamie Elliott. As BT says, "Oh boy, oh boy!" He was good in the last quarter. Those marks were like gold. His footy smarts are as good as anything we saw from Sidebottom and Beams in their early games. Seriously, if Billy had been born 15 centimetres taller we'd be talking of a future franchise player. As it is, he'll still be a champion at Collingwood long after most of his team mates have retired. Billy Elliott we salute you! (Now Nathan Buckley get him to teach Chris Dawes how to grab a ball out of the air!)

(2) Marley Williams. I'm growing to love this kid. He shows footy smarts beyond his years (and could teach Simon Buckley a thing or two). He was massive in the last quarter frenzy.

Now to the really great thing about this year. Players have stepped up. I didn't think they could. Not so soon. But Dayne Beams has been performing at Brownlow winning levels in the past 7 or 8 weeks. Normally Dane Swan would have been a shoo-in for B.o.G. with a performance like today's (he was beautiful to watch), but Laser Beams was at another level again. Especially for hardness! And those goals were simply brilliant. One showed all the signs of genius. When Beams started at Collingwood I thought he showed possible glimpses of being another player in the mould of Millane. Now I know. He will be as good as Darren Millane, and that is the highest tribute I could offer him.

Speaking of hardness, how can you go past Jarryd Blair? Geez he is mighty for a little man! I loved Sidebottom's game, and Sharrod Wellingham's. Dale Thomas took my breath away again. And welcome back to the land of the living Harry O'Brien. And a special ditto to that for Travis Cloke. Cloke had to be the forward line by himself for most of the day. He got help from Goldsack, who is developing nicely in that role.

Our backline looks so much better with Nathan Brown in it. And welcome back Ben Reid (rusty, but you came through unscathed - thank God!). Nick Maxwell was important when it mattered. I thought Toovey struggled. And the less said about Marty Clarke and Simon Buckley tonight, the better for everyone. Rolling Eyes

I leave a final tribute to the most heroic game this man has played for us since the 2010 Grand Final. Darren Jolly. He rucked single-handed all day against two of the best tap ruckmen in the AFL. He spent every penny today to get us over the line. And it was no thanks to Chris Dawes. Not only did Dawes only get 2 hitouts (well people say this is the main reason he is still in the side), he couldn't mark to save his life (surprise, surprise) and his lack of goals for a forward is now seriously embarrassing. You know what, we'd have got a lot more playing Cam Wood today. In Wood's last game he actually marked the ball and kicked goals. It has gone past the ridiculous stage with Dawes now. He must be dropped. We can't keep carrying him. Sorry. But that's the only real negative I have tonight.

Great win. We are on track to win the flag in 2012. Nathan Buckley really CAN coach! Very Happy

Finally, go Black Caviar you good thing! Very Happy
