Was it only because of those GFs in the 70s and 80s or was it before that?

Sorry I know I didn't use the correct terminology and call them the scum.

Pretty sure it goes back to 1910 or thereabouts.

Apparently, the two teams got along quiet well before the 1910 grand final.

In the 1960s an 70s Collingwood lost a series of close finals and grand finals. You may have heard about it.
More than any other team, Carlton and its supporters rubbed our noses in it.
That explains why we hate Carlton. I'm not sure why they hate us.

Everyone refers to the 1910 Grand Final as it was apparently when the rivalry with us and Carlscum began.

Hard to believe we were once 'friends' Shocked Shocked

From Wikipedia-
1910 Grand Final

The hostility in the rivalry between Carlton and Collingwood is considered by some sources[6] to have commenced with the 1910 VFL Grand Final; until that time, the clubs were generally thought to be friendly terms.
Early in the fourth quarter of the match, while Collingwood was leading, a huge brawl broke out involving at least thirty players and officials from both clubs; the fight was described by experienced umpire Jack Elder as he worst he saw in his VFL career. Collingwood held on to win by 14 points, but four players were reported for starting the big fight and as a result were heavily suspended.[6]
Percy Sheehan (Carlton) and Jack Shorten (Collingwood) both were given 18 month suspensions, and Jack Baquie (Carlton) and Tom Baxter (Collingwood) both received 12 month suspensions. However, Collingwood appealed the Baxter suspension and produced a written declaration from another player, Richard Daykin, claiming that it was he and not Baxter who had traded blows with Baquie. The VFL chose to accept Daykin’s confession and cleared Baxter of his 12 month suspension. Soon after Baxter was cleared, Daykin announced his immediate retirement from VFL football.[6] Carlton vowed never to forget this day and they soon had their revenge by winning the Premiership from Collingwood in 1915.

That's simple, we held just about every positive statistical record in the books including premierships we were the target until they started getting their noses in front. WE were a truly working class outfit and they were know as the silvertails ( like melbourne) the rivalry just built up from there. I hate them with a passion! Stemming from those three grand finals where, they seem to have won two from circumstances that equals cheating.... Halms episode and them coming over the top of an injury lame 1970 Pies side boasting about the most incredible comeback of all time................. Evil or Very Mad

It's genetic. It's hardwired into a Collingwood supporters genes. The 70's and early 80's just pushed it up a notch from pure hatred to something bordering on psychotic.

Offer me a choice of $1million and being able to push a button that would obliterate Princess Park while all players and staff were present (and I get to watch it happen) with the guarantee that they would never be able to form a club in any league ever again, I'm going option 2. Twisted Evil

As long as I can remember I've been jeering the Bloos more than any other tram except maybe Richmond.

The 1970 Grand Final set in stone my opinion of the flil...S Blue version..

Lets see how they compete without a Salary Cap Bonus.

Thanks guys that makes sense.

In 1892 the CFC was formed.

By 1910 our club was 18 yrs old.

Like any teenager finding their feet, the club was mates with the scum who were competitors and equals.

The pies worked out the blue scum were enemy after the 1910 GF, that was then set in stone for eternity.

You may laugh but on my bucket list is that I get to see:

Pies beat Blues in granny (by one point would be nice)
Pies appear on top of premiership table (more premierships) above Blues
Pies win more games against Blues than they lose on all time ladder (the score currently sits at 125-116 against us with 4 draws. )

The last one could take a while so I might need to stick around a while!

Smile
