For those that missed it, Sean talked about some notes he found when cleaning out the Millane cupboards. They were notes hand written by Darren is preparation for a book. He re-read his hand written notes describing in great detail the extent and pain of his broken thumb during the 1990 finals.
Sean also spoke about his desire to see the number 42 honoured and celebrated on the Collingwood guernsey for one round a year (above the sponsor on the front, or above the number on the bank, etc.). _________________ Est. 2002 |

I know that this is probably sacrilegious but after almost a quarter of a century it is time to take a deep breath and move on.
Rather than seeing the number 42 honoured once a year I would like to see it back in permanent action, perhaps taking over from 35 if young Daics wants that number.
And, throwing further oil onto troubled waters (or whatever that saying is), I still firmly believe that the club should be making decisions relating to our numbers, not 3rd parties. _________________ Magpies forever.

Nobody else is fit to wear 42. End of story. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

I respectfully don't agree.
And in respect to the feelings of mist here, I won't go into my why.
He was a great player. But he was one in a team of 25-30 heroes that year.

What a crock of shit.... Do you think Pants would lay such a burden on that number?? He would be glad to hand it on. Some of you folks are way too precious... _________________ Every Thought In My Head, Someone Else Has Said ! |

I've never made that emotional connection between player and number but will always remember Darren as wearing 42. He was my favourite player. Would someone else wearing that number change all that? Not at all. Nice gesture by the club but time to let go. _________________ Fault finding is like window washing. All the dirt seems to be on the other side.

The jumper was retired.
dictionary wrote: | re·tire (rĭ-tīr′)
v. re·tired, re·tir·ing, re·tires
To withdraw from use or active service: retire an old battleship.
To take out of circulation: retired the bonds. |
End of story, IMHO |

Agreed, let's leave it alone, the number was buried with Darren.
One good thing about numbers is there's plenty of them. _________________ Defender...........

Well, thanks for that, I had no idea about the definition of retire. Marvellous thing, the internet . So that settles it, 'cos nothing or no one ever comes out of retirement! _________________ Fault finding is like window washing. All the dirt seems to be on the other side.
