Been watching Dustin Martin over last few games - the bloke is an absolute champion player but what makes him that way more than anything is he has the old fashioned mongrel about him - he is not soft at any contest and busts his gut for his team. We need one - and I think we have one in the making in Taylor Adams who has started to show this year he isn't intimidated by anyone - doesn't take any shit from anyone; is courageous in most circumstances - that one player that can make teammates walk tall when the chips are down. We haven't had one since Maxxy retired in my opinion...although he wasn't as talented as Martin - he had some mongrel about him...a leader..

he will get there. I remember when my old man was playing in Victoria, he used to tell me they had a few players in their side that just needed to be 'motivated', sometimes by their own team mate - a smack in the ear by a team mate often resulted in a player's trigger being pulled - we need to make sure someone is 'motivating ' Adams, de Goey and Maynard for best effect.

Mongrel today is very different to mongrel of yester year.
Grundy provides some modern day mongrel but it's a fine line.
You aren't much good to your team on the sidelines, just ask Hawkins and Greene. |

Both are/were once-in-a-generation type enforcers.

What was important with Dustin last night when he ignited the teams motor
was his run ,carry but more important his ability to find a target with spot on
ball use--being a forward with this guy running amok would have been gr8
So with us a guy only 21 but with that same "move aside or die" attitude is
young Maynard who when he gets more experience as a MID will be as good or better
