When specifically, does [quoteDavid]Maybe he or she haven't been watching enough but he or she've [he or she]never[he or she] seen an opponent running the mark without being penalised – whereas he or she've seen plenty peel off when the guy they're manning do it? |

If one of our players followed Short into the protected zone where he receives the ball wouldn't he be pinged first giving them 50m ? |
That’s a really good question. And even if it’s not the case according to the letter of the law, the umpiring of it is so draconian at times that players would understandably be very unwilling to risk it. |

Happens regularly enough. You’ll often see the opposition point to his opponent so the umpire knows he’s within 5m. |
It's 2m, not 5m. The controversy this season surrounds what constitutes "making every endeavour" to clear the area.
"16.1 STANDING THE MARK AND THE PROTECTED AREA
16.1.1 Standing The Mark
When a Player is awarded a Mark or Free Kick or is Kicking into play
after a Behind has been scored, one Player from the opposing Team
may stand at the position on the Playing Surface where the Mark or
Free Kick was awarded or where the field Umpire otherwise directs
the Player to stand. The position on the Playing Surface where the
opposing Player stands is known as “The Mark”.
16.1.2 Protected Area
The Protected Area is a corridor which extends from 10 metres either
side of The Mark to 10 metres either side of, and 5-metre arc behind,
the Player with the football, as illustrated in Diagram 2. No Player shall
enter and remain in the Protected Area unless the field Umpire calls
“Play On” or the Player from the opposing Team is accompanying or
following within 2 metres of their opponent. Any Player caught in
the Protected Area must make every endeavour to clear the
Protected Area immediately." |

Snippets on Mitchell, Clarkson, etc.:
"West Coast will demand financial compensation – a minimum five-figure sum successfully achieved by Collingwood when football boss Rodney Eade broke his contract to go to coach the Gold Coast, and also Port Adelaide when St Kilda in December 2013 poached Ken Hinkley’s right hand man Alan Richardson.
Hawthorn are denying that a potential coaching succession plan is already on the cards to be trialled with Mitchell. But it is telling that Clarkson, having legitimately questioned his on-going position with the Hawks, is now comfortable to continue his fantastic journey. And the club told Clarkson’s longest-serving assistant Brett Ratten last week that it could not guarantee him a job next season, so Ratten has chosen to look elsewhere.
...
If you count Fagan and 2008 premiership star Stuart Dew, Clarkson can take significant credit now for seven current senior AFL coaches – five of whom have worked as his assistants."

Yes he is looking elsewhere as they couldn’t guarantee him for next year. _________________ All We Can Be |

I note that the "standing the mark" rules quoted above don't explicitly say anything about swapping players on the mark, which happens regularly and, so far, with no problems. It seems common for someone to run into the zone to take over the mark and the player who was nearest to the mark to peel back in the defensive direction. |

But you can’t do it from within the zone, they need to come in wide. If a player gets too close or impedes the player with the ball doing that it should be 50 |

Well, the zone extends 10 metres to the side and in a 5m arc behind. They kind of have to appear from somewhere. If they're already in the zone, the rule suggests they have to move out. As stated, it sounds like the only one who can swap with the man closest to the mark is someone coming from behind (or at worst level with) that man on the mark (which is different from what we commonly see, where basically players are peeling back into their defence from the forward side). |

I said on the gameday thread. There is nothing Bux could do. A sensiblr rule change would be a ball up, They won't r risk it , The other thing is any handball not covering 10 metes is play on and the tackled is deemed to have prior. Of course if we tried it we would be getting held and nothing happens. Maybe a Varco shirtfront on Short would have changed hus maid. ^ Are you referring to the Short goals? It just needed a man playing on Short, i.e. right on him (<2m). That's within the rules above. It's not as if Short sprinted and had a 5m break on an opponent. I wonder if our players are a bit slow. Everyone could see what was going on except them.

He has done a lot right this year Bucks but we had to man up those 2 loose in the last 2 minutes, we won the stoppage twice and kicked it to loose men twice. Had to roll the dice and even up the numbers even it it meant losing by 8. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |
