One of the interesting things about Collingwood at this stage is depth. Guy Richards is a handy Ruckman who would have been very useful 5 years ago or indeed in 1999 when our ruckmen were Mark richardson and the amazing Brad Smith.
Like Colin Alexander and Murray Wrensted in 1990, realistically he was never going to earn another senior game at Collingwood. Once Wood arrived he had to go. And he's not alone. there are many good players who are not going to get a senior game at Collingwood in the next two years, if ever. There is no more Richard Cole or Andrew Williams to be let go easily, every time we let a player go, it's going to hurt.

Like Hawthorn in the 80s, we have depth.
one thing i've been able to do is watch them up close at training, watching their mannerisms, their personalities. you don't see this when they are on telly or 50 metres away in a grandstand.
you certainly see them in a different light and this will make it harder to see them go whenever that may happen.

The interesting thing with Colin Alexander is he played for Glenorchy early in his life and could not crack the team, went to Clarence got picked up...came home and played in Premiership sides and was a decent TFL player...which should give Richards something to look at...at least at local level he can play footy and make a career for himself there.
I mean...Aaron James has when he was with Lalor, and Andrew Williams has certainly made himself at home with the Seagulls.
