The 2021 Great Big Consolidated Trade & Draft thread

Just remember any picks between # 2 or #3 and then up to around # 30 odd will drift out two spots on the back of the Darcy and Daicos bids.
Pick 4 would become pick 6 and all clubs would obviously be aware of this slide.
Interesting to read GWS would likely select Darcy ( tall ) over Daicos on a needs basis. Let’s hope whoever has pick one feels the same way. Daicos “ sliding “ to #2 would be a small win.

Wouldnt it be better to use a top end pick in the future as we are guaranteed to get Daicos anyway....why waste a pick 4 or 6 on Daicos this year. As I see it as soon as Daicos gets called out in the top 3 by another team as predicted then we are bound to use that pick 4 or 6....so why not ask for a future top pick instead of this year....when and if we trade for Maynard ??
Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero.
Because we may be able to on-trade it for two other first rounders in 2022 (for example)magpieazza wrote:Wouldnt it be better to use a top end pick in the future as we are guaranteed to get Daicos anyway....why waste a pick 4 or 6 on Daicos this year. I don't think anybody wants to get rid of him - the question is, what if he wants to leave? Do we force him to serve out the last year of his contract, in a year when we won't make finals, then he becomes an RFA at the end of 2022 and we have to either match bids or let him leave? Or, do we try and get something for him now

Maynard will not leave Collingwood, he'll be in the leadership group next year and that's that.Piesnchess wrote:Wanting to get rid of Maynard, one of our most competitive players, always has a go, is just bordering on bloody insanity. just a crazy idea.
Unfotunately our only tradeable assets are Sier and maybe Steele if we are willing to gamble.
Interesting to see how we accumulate points for Daicos/Ip, trade for someone like a Lipinski and improve our position next year if we intend chasing bigger fish (a KPF).
Get to work Graham, just don't damage the morale of our players further.
Btw Cox is worth nothing
Ps. Lynch has value too, not sure I'd trade, depends on return

Wrighty on SEN:
“We’d like another midfielder, we’d like a couple of small forwards and potentially a couple of key forwards, so we’ve got a lot of spots that we would like to potentially fill".
"Sam Weideman is an out-of-contract player … you’re interested in anyone who’s out of contract that can help your football club. He’s a talented young forward.”

^ interesting on the midfielder. I dont see that comment as a Lipinski, Stephens or even Naish. None of these have cemented a senior spot at an AFL club.
Wallis might fit the need but Im hoping its someone with a few more years left

WA footy mate has been telling me for 12 months that we’re into Jarrod Brander. I don’t get excited by rumours for obvious reasons but the planets are slowly aligning on this one. He’s out of contract and he won’t re sign, he’s a Vic lad and he’s not happy because he’s being played out of position. ( he’s 195cm and was playing on the wing before his injury ) He’s played both key back and forward throughout his early career. West coast Eagles have also publicly declared the next couple years are all about the draft. So how do we get it done ?
Potentially Collingwood would give up their future first rounder and receive Brander and the Eagles future first rounder in return. There may also be some fluff and padding added in just to help both clubs feel like they have won from the deal.
The beauty with a trade like this is that Collingwoods future first can easily sold as a pointy end pick in the 2022 draft, while the Eagles will sell their pick as a mid range first round pick. We can’t fall any lower but the Eagles can and this is where we may get a win. We would still go to the 2022 draft with a first rounder and that gives us plenty of flexibility leading up to the night.
You can replace Brander and insert any quality player you want but any deal that includes a swap of future first round picks between us and another club is a safe and sound strategy. Collingwood would inject instant quality into the team and still have a first rounder in the 2022 draft. Obviously the best outcome is to do that deal with any club who goes backwards from their 2021 season but those trades don’t come with crystal balls.

I certainly hope your WA footy mate is on the money here and it can be done without either depleting our draft capital too much or losing a required player. Brander is going to be a gun. Has the mobility of a small forward at 195cm. He's not really your contested marking beast, but is very good on the lead. Very handy when it hits the deck too.Pies2016 wrote:WA footy mate has been telling me for 12 months that we’re into Jarrod Brander. If he does want out of West Coast (which appears likely), we'd be crazy not to have a crack.

I like Brander. I liked him in the draft and I couldnt understand why eagles took him with the talls they had at the time. He absolutely has been played out of position but even then has shown a bit. He would be a really good pick up - just not sure how we get him or even Weid for that matter unless its the PSD.Pies2016 wrote:WA footy mate has been telling me for 12 months that we’re into Jarrod Brander. This bloke is silk. Fantastic tall to add to our forward set up. With the scenario above its the only way we can add quality quickly to our list. We then can afford to look around for a suitor to come to terms with for lynch (our own) for a reasonable deal. The cupboards are bare but we could be one year advanced than other clubs clean outs. So the tide will change.Pies2016 wrote:
