Inky, fast forward those five years I mentioned and Wellingham will be 29 as we enter the business end of the season. That's not a bad age at which to be taking on a more limited role. You shouldn't have to be all things to all men at at that age.
I'll go with Scotch's pick. Blair. Unless Swanny wants to do a Craig Bradley.
Hypothetical anyway - team could be very different by that time.

Melbourne were hit with supersonic pressure. They wilted. The last 3 weeks we have reverted to game plan A=high forward press and manic tackling. No team can handle it. MM would be loving the last 3 weeks because our best defensive side of our game is back. Teams can't score. We are going to be much better in the second half of the year. We will be very , very hard to stop. Average winning margin so far-10 goals. Second highest percentage at halfway mark of a season in over 20 years. Forget the Geelong game it was an aberration.

Rarely posting these days, but I am just loving this season :D Been in WA so many years now, I am enjoying seeing the fantastic skills on show from our west aussie magpie boys. Leon has been amazing, Sharrod, breathtaking. Delighted to see Fasolo get his first game today, looking forward to more.

Very classy 2011 'Pies

What a great win. We had half our midfield out and we still won by nearly 15 goals. Fasolo had a good first game.

So ... if we had all of our midfield out, would we win by nearly 30 goals?

I think Wellingham basically stepped up into Swan/Daisy's role and really excelled. Glad I decided to put 21 on the new guernsey I bought earlier in the year rather than my usual 4.

Hope Sharrod can keep it up or perhaps even improve.

^^Once Swanny and Thomas are back, he'll probably go back to his usual role, which is more of a balance between offense and defense and more of a supporting role. We don't share the ball around like a Carlton, so aren't often going to have Pendles, Swan, Thomas and Wellingham all getting 30 touches.

I do want to see Wellingham getting more of the ball when Thomas and Swan return, but I don't think it will be massively more.

Great to see Wellers really step up and do the Swan job (38 touches or so is massive and shows tremendous workrate). Bally was fantastic and did extra grunt work in Daisy's absence. Wood was again excellent in the ruck (getting better all the time). JMac is improving and great to see Cloke get his first 6-bagger.

How good did Neon look cutting through Demon defenders, like slicing through warm butter. Leon has surprised the shyte out of me this year, is playing with huge confidence much like the first half of 2009 when he was a midfield stalwart.

Probably the best win of the year so far given who was out.

Watching Melbourne today you've got to wonder why the likes of Bate and Pettard aren't getting a game.

Both have talent and have done well against us in the past, hell even Dunn and Warnock would have provided them with a bit more height and strength in defence and attack.

Strange move by there coach.

What impressed me most and I now see it being something special and maybe linked to Arizona... was how much fitter we were and it was noted in the last qtr by commentators that we continued to run where as Melbourne looked tired.

We now just overpower teams.

The coaching staff, fitness advisers nutritionists and so on should take a bow.

The level of pressure play for 4 qtrs is a real credit to MM

We won the Geelong game the umpire got it wrong with the play on rule. So we have not dropped a game. :P

What a great win , after all the running off from the mouth from the toffs, so good to put them back in their rabbit trap at the savage club. Send them off with liquid running down their moleskin trousers. Clokey, Wellers and Bally killed them and many others. Tarrant murdered green. Great debut for Fasolo.

Wellers got his chance to shine today and boy did he jump at the opportunity. I've suspected since the GF and today just confirmed it, Sharrod Wellingham is one of or if not the best rover of inside 50 ruck contests going around. His ability to dodge traffic and evade tackles at pace is amazing! I'd love to know what percentage of his goals have been scored from gathering a loose ball at a stoppage inside 50, he'd probably average 2 goals a game if only he were more accurate.

Very excited with the win, we're now dismantling opposition with ruthless authority and going for the complete kill. It only gets better! :D
Nope, Wellingham & Pick 30 wont do, will it Rossy Baby?

Suffer in your jocks Teapot.
haha, will go down as one of the cock ups of the century!
Kind of funny how little everyone thought of Sherrod last year. We offered him up to the Saints who didn't want him. We offered him to the Kangas for the right to swap second round picks and Brad Scott, ex Collingwood assistant, didn't want him. Now he's an established and important part of a juggernaut!
yeah, I guess that was a little kick up the backside he probably needed. Personally I was a little miffed at the time he was put up, whatever the reason. Just very glad he's still with us.
Me to. Still vividly remember his game against G Ablett when we spanked the cats by 80 odd points a few years ago. Always thought he was the long term run-with player to replace Johnson when he retires.
