We must come out much stronger than what we have shown so far after byes. Hopefully last year's PF against the Cats is an indication that when it comes to finals time, the boys will be totally switched on!

The difference between the Bye and the week off during finals, is that the Bye is used to freshen up. Players go back home, have a holiday away from footy etc. It's a longer term view of the season.

During the week off during finals, they are under full scale training and don't really have time away from the club. Their mind is fully on the job.

No media comentator has realised/mentioned this.

You would take the week off in the finals every time. I can't think of the last team that had to play through and win it (westcoast 06 maybe) , but statistically, it favours the rested teams heavily.

Yes, everything pointed towards us making the finals and more than likely top 2. But until it's done (win the games and 4 points is added), it's not done. Otherwise your making gross assumptions.

I've been around enough time to see seasons go pear shaped real quick.

I don't just refer to the Hawks for 2009, but also 2011. All looked good for top 4 and major contender. While it has not had an impact yet, their injuries may see those assumptions crash. Can happen to us too.

It's a matter of acknowledging the milestone achieved. That's my point. Even if you don't appreciate it, it's been acomplished. It's done. Not predicted. Big difference.

Yep Swans & WCE both 05 & 06 respectively. It is a rareity though. Certainly want the week off during finals

My point is that players are managed far differently during the Mid season Byes in comparision to the week off in finals.

If the Bye was managed the same, we'd see far better results the week after. However, longer term in the season, it may have a negative impact.

The scum have the bye in round 23.

So late in the season with round 24 to blow out the cobwebs available this will give them some advantage week 1 of the finals IMO.

I was stressed to the Max Saturday. Firstly I had East Burwood kick 11.25 and then I had to watch the Pies kick 13.21. Bonus is both teams won. Note to Trav: If you struggle kicking 10 metres out, why would you not walk back another 20 and be more comfortable?
Some great strong grabs from Trav and should be just as good this week. I am tipping 10 goal haul from Trav this week.

I particularly loved Luke Ball's goal and the long slow chant as he walked back to the centre.

Spine tingling.

Accompanying commentary: "Luke Ball playing so well under Mick Malthouse. Much better than the last two years under Ross Lyon"

How good was Taz in that last stanza, when they could've overrun us ?

Other individual good efforts during that period: Leon, Reid, Tooves, Maxy, Trav.

In the thick of all the intensity, Taz marks. Smooth long kick to Krak who pinpoints Trav for a great goal from the pocket.

Pies to kick first 3 or 4. Inaccuracy to keep Swans in it. Lead to never blow out past 5 goals. Swans to make a 3rd quarter / 4th quarter charge. Pies to win by 3 or 4 goals.

In case anyone was wondering, this is the 30th anniversary of the first meeting between the Swans and Collingwood in Sydney, an upset loss that derailed our season and ultimately cost our boys the minor premiership. This gifted an easy flag to the Showponies.

It is fitting that this auspicious occasion is marked by a hard fought win to the Pies, making the Swans' season harder.

Now, in two weeks time, it's payback time for the Showponies.
