Bizarre, if you ask me. He has been solid at worse. And we now go into the game without a medium forward.swoop42 wrote:The McCarthy omission is interesting.
He's been solid since coming into the team and his exclusion is probably more about giving other's a shot in the big time.
He's the kind of player we should be giving as much game time to as possible.
Still, happy to see Rounds and Fasolo in. Fas should not have been dropped after his first game - Goldsack should have been omitted. And Rounds, even though only in patches, has impressed me with his pace, footskills and body strength for a small, in the VFL.
I definitely like the injection of pace into our forward line (assuming both Fasolo and Rounds play there - still a strong chance one will be the sub as well, I guess)
I'd expect so. We have enough running backs, and with Didak and McCarthy out and Sidebottom struggling a bit, not too many smaller forwards.swoop42 wrote: I wonder if Rounds will be played up forward?
Completely agree. Buckley has shown far more than Goldsack. Delaying his inclusion in favour of Tyson would be simply unfair.swoop42 wrote: ^With Buckley back in pie Goldsack is the logical omission.
Tough but it's all about team balance.
Goldsack's shown very little this season, and I don't think he's found a spot in our best side yet. Players like Buckley and McCarthy have shown better form.
He was an obvious omission. Really, he should not have played last week - instead of shafting a young bloke after a promising fist game.
Well done boys!
I don't think they were "shafting" Faicos. I think they were just mindful of how Sydney play the game and wanted the mature bodies. Probably the right call - although Goldie didn't play too well. It was like a rolling maul for most of the night - I'd rather the kids were protected from that, at least until they have adjusted to the senior pace.

I think we're at 29 or 30 players played so far this year. I'd like to see us reach the 33/34 mark, as that's probably the limit of our squad to keep it at 100% (ie. without digging deep into the seconds' list, like a few clubs have had to do due to injuries). Playing Young and Rounds is a step towards that, and I'm always eager to see our first-gamers as I don't get to the VFL games.

Would be much better for it to be dry. The weather was one reason the Cats were able to get over us. Wet weather would definitely be advantage Hawthorn, given their height deficiency down back.swoop42 wrote:The expected wet weather tomorrow might diminish the impact Cloke, Dawes, Jolly and Brown can have up forward and help the Hawthorn cause.
If Gibson goes to Cloke then send the dagger to the goal square.

I haven't thought too much about this one but I'm fairly confident. A fit and firing Didak, a fit and a healthy and firing Beams as well as a Macaffer and a Johnson is all we need to be full strength.
I'll be especially disappointed if we lose, because if we do it will be due to a lack of effort. The best we can serve up should be too good.

Wet weather is not Buddy-Boy's friend, nor is it friendly for precise Hawk kicking. Would play into our hands you would think, particularly with their young bodies. Apart fron Cloke / Dawes, the wet suits us fine.AN_Inkling wrote:Would be much better for it to be dry. The weather was one reason the Cats were able to get over us. IMO Buddy is the best wet weather tall forward in the competition without exception.Raw Hammer wrote:Wet weather is not Buddy-Boy's friend, nor is it friendly for precise Hawk kicking. And the Hawks midfield is also pretty handy in the wet.
Last year provides no real form line for this game as they didn't have Buddy in the first game, and we had no incentive in the second.
Tomorrow's game is important psychologically. If we can't win with the Hawks having so many omissions, then it could damage us mentally if we meet again.

I think Buckley at the moment fills the Ben Johnson void rather well at the moment. I think disposal wise, Buckley is better than Johno at the moment.
I'm not sure how Johno played in the second half of the VFL. I saw the first half and barely saw Johno. Any news?
I think Keeffe is a bit stiff not to have any games at the moment and even Tom Young.
Though I'm liking the look of Ugle at times in the VFL.
