In spite of what the leadership group had wanted out of their teammates, none of them bothered to spread after quarter time. I can only think that they had nothing to play for. My main gripe from last night's game was discovering Travis Varcoe playing as a sweeper and Mick didn't bother with accountability until he had Ben Sinclair running with him. I'm sure Mick won't be that silly by letting each opponent's sweeper roam the field in dangerous positions starting from next week.

We'll see how the next 4 weeks play out. If we win the flag, this will be seen as the dead rubber. If we lose, especially if we faio to beat Geelong, then yes, they have worked us out.

Our game plan yesterday was bizarre - using the centre corridor too much and at no stage did we push players back into D50.

See, I already stated that last night, however we're not shit, we played shit.

We didn't come to play, self preservation mode for many players. Injuries are the worry at the moment. Next week is what matters, last night the club just wasted our time.

I'm with you Hiss. We left about the same time. I feel for you down Corio way and especially poor Witty having to put up with crap for the next week or so in Geelong.

I don't understand modern football if you can simply turn form on and off like a light bulb.

I suppose if we're not going to win the flag this year, then it is a great blessing. Frankly I'd much rather limp out in straight sets than lose another grand final. This time (for the first time) to Geelong or Hawthorn. God preserve us! The bad days are here again.
   haha priceless! The game meant nothing and the players played that way. Next you'll be calling for Eddie's and Mick's heads just like in the good old days!

PS: The Lexus Centre Cult is watching you! 8)

That's an article of faith. Do you have a crystal ball?

How many times do I have to say I hope I'm wrong?

I tell you guys what though. Nothing is going to destroy the great game of footy more, than so many meaningless games in a season.
No wonder crowds are down. If I was Dimmy I'd be very very worried about the implications of sides not playing games on their merits.

Just be prepared for an almighty roasting wherever we go this week from Collingwood haters. We thought we'd win respect this year. We can salvage some honour with a flag, but this week we've earned nothing but derision.
I have a 12 month plus hiatus from Nick's caused by a pathetic, frustrating troll, and come back to take stock of a disappointing night to find the same wanker sprouting exactly the same shit despite the fact that we've won a flag and are 20 and 2 since I was driven away.

You go from saying that 'our' confidence is shattered and we are done for the year (a team that is 20 and 2), to saying you hope we can redeem ourselves.

You are disingenuous, inconsistent, bitter and clearly emotionally retarded/scarred, and in those regards, nothing has changed. Don't worry, jack, I'll be gone again once I've gathered a consensus of opinion about what exactly happened last night.

I will give you an opportunity to tell me to 'play the man'. Your relationship with CFC reminds me of my parents' marriage. Familiar misery. They are at their most comfortable when they are being horrible to each other because it is what they have come to expect. You are so convinced that Collingwood wants to hurt you that you come into your own when it looks like they might. You delight in it and it's really, really sad.

Could you do me one favour? Stay away from dreamteamtalk next year? It'd be nice if there was some place on the net I could go without exposing myself to your bullshit.

There is no way that last night tells us that we have lost ground to the Cats, that we are off the boil or that we have a potentially fatal weakness in terms of personnel on the field, or strategy. It tells us that Malthouse is prepared to flirt with form and that does worry me. I also agree that the integrity of the game suffers from an event like last night - but let us be honest - it is in tatters anyway. West Coast is not really a top four team, the Lions were not really incapable of five wins this year, North were good enough to play in finals if the AFL had wanted them to, and there is not really a lot of difference between what Clarkson did this weekend, and what Malthouse did. Whoever pulls the strings of the umpires and compels them to contrive results got greedy this year - it is becoming obvious to more and more people that 2 + 2 does not in fact equal 5, and the shit's going to hit the fan bigtime fairly soon in that regard. I wonder, in fact, if MM was seeking to highlight and underline the actions of Clarkson with his own because the guy actally does care about the game, and he's a cantankerous old bastard who's being shown the door in his prime and has little to lose.

That has little to do with the Pies who will go into a Qualifying final without Sinclair, without Fasolo, without Leigh Brown, but hopefully we'll be able to cover those guys with Daisy, Heater and Neon. I think those three can step up and fill the breach.

We will smoke the Eagles even if we have to beat 25 to do it, which is on the cards

Which is a kind of ironic statement when you check out the context within which it was delivered. I mean seriously dude (and I use that term with every last skerrick of my poetic license) but get a grip. You're embarrassing us to the interwebs.

LOL. Just so much LOL. I'll even dust off a ROFL. A post every 75 minutes 24 hours a day presumably isn't ramming opinions down our throats.

You weren't the happiest person in Melbourne when we won last year. It was my birthday and I was off my chops.

Regardless, if or when we win it this year, I expect there to be a glib retraction on your behalf followed by arrogance and grandstanding at other teams' misfortunes, not realising that you are again setting yourself up for how you're feeling now. Then we can go through this whole thing again. Believe me, it's as cathartic for me as it clearly is for you :P
Thanks Geek, what a truly wonderful post!

I actually think he wants us to lose so he can go on about it for the next ten years

Spot on!
May the force be with us

Was at the game. Was blatantly obvious almost from the opening bounce that none of our boys were going to run as hard as they needed to to win. The way I saw it, we were simply going through the motions.

Bring on the Weagles next week.

Love this reply. Very interesting comments about the umpires. I noticed that an umpire was changed at the last minute for the Saints game at Etihad... and that the replacement's decisions were very odd. I am not totally worried about the loss last night, but to deliberately play like that in front of 85,000 paying customers, more than half of whom are Collingwood fans??? I couldn't get into the game, even in the first quarter, because you can really only encourage a team when there is effort. And really, I didn't see effort or desire last night. Had to be contrived. I can understand Mick and the player's decision to play 'bruise free' and go through the motions. The premiership is what it's about. Hope Mick's master plan pays off...
