Monky joins the Gone list

Post by ^*Cl|T*^ »

Hmmmmmmmm
We all knew mick had not one bit of loyalty in his body.
Either he thinks; McKee is an absolute gun ruckman, Fraser will stand up first year, has a hell of a lot of faith in Brad Smith, or thinks our non ruckman talls (eg Richo, Roccas) can handle ruck duties next season. He has given Monkhurst the word.

where did you hear about this? perhaps malthouse doesn't value ruckmen as much as other coaches. whilst this is sad news, we have to put faith in micky's decisions. let's just hope monky gets to do a lap of honour first round next year.

Channel 10 Melbourne News reported that Monkey will retire or consider another side after being told he may spend the entire of 2000 in the reserves.
I think MM is making the decisions that Tony Shaw didnt have the heart to make.
MM is after an instant winner and we have to let him make the decisions that may hurt intially but will bear fruit come 2000.

Just saw on the Perth 10 news that Monkey looks like he's finished. Hate to see him in someone else's colours or running around in their VFL team, let alone ours. Surely he's got some talent and tips to pass onto the new guard. Balmey said he'd have to see what the coach felt! It's a new era at Victoria Park. Not sure I like the MM move, He might be a good coach but he's never come across as the sort of bloke I wanted coaching the pies.

The news that MM has sacked Monky is the best news that i have heard for ages, he should have been sacked 2 years ago. Now the pies will get somewhere with a coach who doesnt care what a player has done in the past.

Had our recruiting team got off their asses and decided to blood a neww young ruckman a few years back or got a ready made one from another club Monky should have gone earlier than this.

Remember that MM won 2 flags without a half decent ruckman. Maybe he doesn't consider the ruck to be such a valuable position as some.

because trading is over, if monkey wants to play elsewhere he would have to picked up by via the national or pre-season draft. We would get nothing. Its the same as Russell & Francis last year.

If he leaves, he'll probably do a pre-season with another club so that they can assess him for drafting in December. Because of the short pre-season he would have to show something very early.

MONKEY WAS SIMPLY TOLD WHAT EVERYONE ELSE ALREADY KNEW: 2000 is the season he is expected to make himself redundant by teaching the youngsters how to take his spot.

Monky sees himself as a #1 ruckment for at least 1-2 more years. No other club in the league would have him as such (except maybe Freo) as they all have a decent #1 ruckman, and certainly don't need as ageing, injury-prone player. Obviously MM has told Monky he won't be #1 and Monky wants to be where he can be #1 - but there really is nowhere else for him.

Having said that, I really hope he sticks around to hand over the reins in 2000 so that we can give a true legend and REAL clubman (not like Walker the invisible) the send off he deserves.
