It's a big week in football.

Post by the president »

Team, this is a huge week for the Collingwood football club.
Tomorrow, (Thursday) we will announce a major partnership deal which will help underpin the clubs finances going forward.
It is something we have been working on for months and has now come to fruition.
Something that will make our club financially stronger, have a bigger impact on the community and develop our young band of players.
This Sunday again the Collingwood football club is the public face of our game. Anzac Day is big because of Essendon V Collingwood, Federation day is big because it is Collingwood V Carlton, Hawthorn's deal to to move from Waverley included playing Collingwood round one, while North complain their financials were down last year because they didn't get a crowd against Collingwood.
The magpies continue to help underpin football and it is long overdue that we are leveraging our own popularity for our own good.
I hope everyone this week really lifts as we take on the enemy. Good verses evil in a match we must win.
Jimmy Barnes will sing before our match,(Working class man will be Collingwood man) we have parachutists, fly pasts, as always the best prematch to build this game into something no other club can provide.
Kerrie, Joffa and Alf get ready because after the teams run onto the ground and the respective theme songs are played I have asked for the "You never walk alone" tape to be played on the scoreboard.
After that I want the cheersquad to lift like there is no tomorrow.
I've been reading the comments lately about the Melbourne situation from last week.
Thank you for the support. I have been contacted by all manner of pepole who reaffirm that my reporting of the Melbourne situation in no way constituted a conflict of interest and I will always tell it as it is on television. Subsequently my story was vindicated.
Mr. Coventry-St.Kevins writes "how would I go uncovering turmoil at Collingwood? Well when Tarrant went walkabout we released the story, when we had the legionella problem we releaased the story when there was a challenge to the board last week we released the story. After two and a half years I am sick of people questioning my integrity and "worrying about potential conflicts." Time to look at the scoreboard.
As for his belief that "there are always factions at the club" that is entirely wrong. I worry sometimes about the tone of his posts it reminds me of the type of thinking that nearly killed our club. Unless it hasn't been spelt out enough already you are either with Collingwood or against us no matter what your name is.
Rumor and innuendo has undermined Collingwood for years probably since the 50's, no fluke that we have not achieved what we should have since then.
We focus all our energies in making Collingwood a positive, successful club and beating the opposition. There will be no factions under my presidency. If you want a factionalised club full of big noters then you will not need to worry about me. Thankfully we are as one. It is however in the good times that those rats start coming out from under the mat. Don't be the first one!
Anyway as is always the case when it comes to Carlton the build up is unbearable. I have told the boys in no uncertain terms what this game means to all of us. They are very mature and the build up is great.
Watch out getting to the game because there is no trams because of the parade down Swanston street. Get there early barrack for Williamstown, enjoy Barnesy and David Campbell who by the way are doing the gig because of their friendship with vice president Brad Cooper and then lets get ready to rumble.
It's on and at Collingwood It's one in all in.
The President.

Ed, You're a superstar!

You and Mick have turned this club around just like Houllier at Liverpool-my two great loves, keep up the good work.

Ah...your a good man Ed!

I'm totally sick of hearing the 'conflict of interest' whinging...I can't even begin to imagine what it does to you!

Have no fear about our performance on Sunday against the filth, wave after wave of the glorious Black'n'white will drown out every pathetic wimper that the scum can muster. And it don't matter at the end of the day how shot the voice is, the 50th rendition of 'Good old Collingwood forever' will be ringing in their sorry ears as they tearfully depart the G.

And fess up Ed, your among friends...being a media giant is one thing...but I bet being Prez of THE CLUB is the one that gets you smiling at night!!

GO YOU MIGHTY WOODSMEN!!!!!

Ed, I'am with you when u say ur either Collingwood or against us.
I hear ya loud and clear. We will be there supporting the lads and I will go out and support the Willi boys as well. These guys want to be part of the Collingwood identity and i feel we should support them as a few of us did at Windy Hill.....Last Week....
Anyone know if Kinnear got off.....Ed as long as we see stability and hopefully on field results u have our 110 % support...Its a historical fact if there is a successful group of Board members genrally the team is more successful. Its weird I know but a fact....I also agree piss the big noters off...I can think of one who posts on this forum frequently/

This is a article from the Collingwood Rant

So now I come to the current ubiquitous club president Ed "the head" McGuire.

My concern is that Ed is becoming another post 1990 McAllister. But while McAllister spoke constructive things in the beginning and later began speaking silly things, Ed has begun with silly things already.

The most recent and probably destructive example came last week on his footbally TV program (though not a skerrick of any AFL game ever appears on it). Ed was looking to "break" a story, and said that some of the Melbourne board was looking to unseat their president, Joseph Gutnick. The allegation set off a slanging match between some Melbourne board members and Ed. While Gutnick showed restraint and handled himself with aplomb, Ed was caught up with the toing and froing of harsh words with Melbourne.

What I don't understand is that, if the story was such a "scoop" (and there are suggestions it was just a beat up), why not let another member of his footbally program mention it? Conversely, Ed appears to be very slow to speak against the AFL when it is acting against Collingwood's interests. Does he believe that the AFL is always acting in Collingwood's interests? Or is it that he is an AFL lackey? Carlton president John Elliot isn't backward in lashing out at the AFL when Carlton is affected.

I think that Ed is forgetting that he has been elected by Collingwood members to act in the best interests of Collingwood.

Slanderous words against other clubs is hardly a memorable way to act/

Thank you Rohan for sharing.

Did you mean to post it without comment? Are you agreeing with it or disagreeing? Or is it here to provoke debate?

Surely if you have a beef with Eddie you can do what Yaddum Tifka (the author of the piece above) did and put it in your own words and then post it as a new topic so that we can all see clearly what your views are.

Slipping that article in here reeks of an attempt to discredit without putting your neck on the line.

Doesn't work - never has.

I just put the article in to get another side to the debate.
I take on board what Eddie has said and as I said before, I have nothing against him. He is right in the things he say's about the club. It's just good to get another angle to the issue, I have stated my opinion on the conflict already and wanted to share some one else's.
Further to this, I would like to talk about how he say's we have a united board. I agree with this but I would like to raise a other issue regarding the board.
Does he think it is right for a current board member to play Amatuers football on the the same day when Collingwood are playing. If you are a board member you should at least attend the games, shouldn't you think?
Every argument has two sides, I'm just stating mine. Theres nothing wrong with that isn't there?

Yup, Ed is the best thing that has happened to Collingwood in a long time.

Kudos to Ed for all the hard work done in stabilising the club.

Go Pies
