Well let's face it. Chances are 90% umpires grew up hating Collingwood and the 10% that did would be so afraid of being outed that they umpire harder on Collingwood to ensure they never face scrutiny. Could you image the hatred if it was suspected that an umpire favoured Collingwood. The media would be unrelenting. Consider if an umpire was suspected of favouring the team Collingwood played. All we get is "stop whinging Collingwood fans"

Spoke to my mother before, usual Sunday phone call. She's a North supporter but watches a lot of games, she was adamant that the umpiring on Friday night was utter crap.
So it's not just the Pies supporters.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Hargraves actually made contact with the ball in the spoiling motion so no issue with this not being a free. The one not paid to Reid again by Hargraves was definitely a free any day of the week and again resulted in a doggies goal.

The nature of the contest makes the contact irrelevant. Hargraves had eyes on the ball and fisted it over the line. Not a free Friday night and there should never be a free kick paid for that sort of thing. I was at the game and thought the same as you in the live action until I saw the replay and he realised he made contact with the ball. Very brave by Hargraves.

Really hate this trend toward players ducking and getting frees. Didn't like Heater getting one for doing it, hate it when opposition players do it. As soon as a player contributes to the head high contact it should be "play on".
I'm sure when Fas got the free he said " we have heads too" to the ump!
Reckon he did to. Realised after I posted this that Heater got 1 as well.

Lonergan is the master at holding without being penalised and taking out a players run at the ball, which if a Collingwood defender did the same he would be pinged for illegal shepherding
The subtelties of an Umpire appreciation round has been missed by everyone including myself. That was until whilst having a good ol sit and think on the throne i had an epiphany.
The umpiring last round was so bad and hard to follow that ANY other round from here on in will appear bleesed with fair and unbiased umpiring.
This round made me appreciate good umpiring even more!

Here, here on the comments on Lonergan. He bear hugs Cloke and Dawes every time it looks like they will lead towards the ball. They can't lead and they can't jump. He doesn't hold the jumper but wraps his arms around their waste so they have no speed off the mark. Worse thing is he knows he will get away with it in a Grand final as there is no chance it will get free kicked. Its downright cheating.
I saw Reid in the goal square in the 3rd quarter try to lead out and the Doggies players shepherded him when the ball was 40 metres away.

Absolutely correct, and yet I'm also certain that if it was Taz in the position of Hargreaves and any other non-Collingwood player in Trav's position, a free kick would have been paid.

There used to be this thing called "incidental contact"......... It is (apparently) still a contact sport I think.
