Demons offering $5m
Freo offering $5.5m
Carlton offering $5m

We have apparently softened our stance on the 5 year deal and will probably get him for $3.75-4m

Is he worth it? (never thought I'd say that)

I'd be offering him 750K -4 years or 700K-5 years and not a cent more.
This would put enough strain on us as it is even taking into account salary cap will increase by 1 million in a year or two due to a new media deal.

Clokes destroyed Richmond.

Once the seeds of discontent are sown, the weeds of disharmony they grow are very hard to eradicate.

I will never forget the look on Gotchy and MM's faces after a quarter time huddle at Werribee when David grabbed Cam and Jason aside and proceeded to 're-instruct' his boys on what they should be doing.

I think we need Travis though and I like him. He seems to be the only 'normal' Cloke. You can chose your friends but you can't chose your family.....but you can choose your manager.

^ The advantage is - if we take the deal we might never have to deal with David again.

Trav turned 25 in March, so would play the last year of his contract having just turned 30. For a player that went into contests with a similar level of hardness, Rocca had a pretty good year when he was 30, but faded rapidly after that. At the same stage of their careers Rocca had played about 30 less games than Trav though.

Though maybe the point that David Cloke is trying to make is that he was another hard nut and he played 333 games up until the age of 36 - he even got 16 Brownlow votes in his last season for Richmond.

5 years is a gamble, but one that at least 3 clubs are prepared to take. They think therefore that Cloke can help them to win them a premiership and are willing to pay the price.

I can't believe this allowed to happen during the playing season, i feel so sorry for Bucks, in his first year at the helm he has to contend with this crap. The AFL has a long break between seasons, longer than in any other sport, so why can't this be sorted then. And David Cloke shave that farking porn star tache off, everyone knows who you are, even without it.I can just see you in front of the mirror curling the ends.....PRICK.

you will also be the same moron criticizing the club for losing Cloke.

I dont know why we seem to think that cloke is somehow obligated to give us a 25% discount to his market price.

If he agrees to stay with us for 5 years and $4 million, i would think we should say thanks you Tranvis for saving us over $200k per year off your market value.

You guys obviously have never been in demand. Trust me, even when you make more than $1 million per year, it is very hard to give up $200k per year. Especially when EVERYONE else seems prepared to give it to you.

.

Sure its great to be a big tough guy on Nick's bulletin board. I for one am glad that our guys recognize that a negotiation is fluid and that we dont have the Beast negotiating for us. If Beast was in charge, we'd end up with Sentanta O'halipern playing Centre Half Forward for us.

They are right. Imagine if Carlton could add the best contested mark in the game to its forward line? betts and Yarran would have a pack they could sit at the bottom of. It is a scary thought.

A couple of questions if I may? 1. Who is this Tranvis we should say thanks you to, and 2. Have you ever been in demand, have you been in the position of having to choose if you would knock back 200k or so?.

Travis doesn't have to take less than market rate.

Except that Pendles, Daisy, Swan, Steele et al all did, which makes Trav look like a greedy dick.

You know, side by side and all

Ah yes........Another thread full of ramblings from people who have no idea...

"Give him $700k.....No wait give him $800k and not a cent more.....No wait, give him $750k for 5 years.....No wait, that's too much, give him $750k for 4 years or $700k for 5......" blah blah blah blah blah

You don't know what you are talking about so please save us (and you) the embarrassment of pretending that you do.

And please no more "I'm hearing..." and "My sources tell me..." YOU are not "hearing" anything other than what you are hearing on the radio and YOUR "sources" are the wider football media, just like everybody else

Give him a 24 hour - take it or leave it option - Pies weill know exactly where they stand and then look after other players.

Travis is no Lebron James and LBJ is not the highest paid player in the NBA.
Coaches give you direction but skills win you matches.

Let the backroom boys do their job and everybody stop jumping at shadows! I prefer to think of the Travis that knocked backed huge money from Essendon to stay at the Pies, last time his contract was renewed. We were wrapped then wrent we, eventhough the personal insults were flying thick and fast re his Dad etc.
I'll spew if he goes somewhere else (especially the Scum), but I have every confidence that our club will do the right thing, whether he stays or goes. Im still thinking he'll stay. Get used to this kind of contractual stuff happening during the seasons though people. Being happening in the NRL for years and its something I used to hang my hat on re: AFL v NRL arguments with my Thugby league mates. "wouldnt happen in my great sport, club loyalty etc etc. The fans would go wild and wouldnt support a player saying he would change clubs for next year during a season!".....well things are changing, and we will all have to get used to it Im afraid.
Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think!
