I've barely read a post on all of this Cloke discussion, just been waiting for the deal to be done, as it always seemed like it would. Nothing to get worked up over.

Now that the club have reportedly offered a 5 year deal, it looks as if a resolution is close.
Well done boys!

I've already said prior to this it needed to be done quickly and behind closed doors. Of course the Clokes took to the media in a negative way and the whole thing grew like topsy from there. Its been $@&^# royally since then.

Oh dear I criticised Buckley! I'm expecting an outbreak of boils any minute now. Buckley would have been better saying nothing. What the Clokes do to themselves or how that is perceived is not his business. His business is developing our football team to win a premiership and thinking up moves like tagging Chris Judd for example.

I've said on record I was wrong earlier re his coaching ability but he is not perfect and I for one won't treat him as such. My opinion is that, with his considerable influence on fans, he would have been better to stay out of the debate, knowing that if he said anything negative it would be taken to heart by literally thousands. I noticed the level of vitriol here went up after his comments. Plus he has to coach the guy and I cant see it helps his relationship with TC to make comments about "his brand".

I certainly do not kick Buckley every chance I get. That is just crap.

McKenna wasn't THAT loyal. Ended up swapping to Carlton, where he finished his career (playing for Carlton reserves, when he was injured and lost a kidney). McKenna also came out blazing in the Friday newspaper before the 73 Prelim Final, saying how disgusted he was that he had been dropped from the the team for a teenage debutant (Rene Kink).
I think that's a bit of re-writing of history there PP. McKenna left because he was no longer wanted by Collingwood. If you don't believe me, just ask him.
He always said his time at Carlton was a miserable waste of time, he hated playing for them, but Hafey flicked him. I recall that 73 final, and i can understand his anger, he had booted around 100 goals that season. Kink did ok though, he was just 16 and kicked four goals from memory. 8)

The club took a bold decision to drop him and play a promising kid instead, in a bold decision to shake things up. Almost worked, but we were beaten narrowly in the Prelim by the Tigers. Kink kicked 3 goals in a promising debut.

I agree. My money is on 5 years and $750k per year for a total of $3.75 million. Maybe they will add $100k for each of the years he is eligible for veteran list. Whats funny is that if he stays relatively uninjured, he'll probably wish he got a 4 year deal because by then the salary cap will have grown astronomically i'm betting.

Thomas is the smart guy. trust you are going to be good enough to get paid and just sign up for 2 years at a time. It motivates you and it enables you tro reset the bar as you improve.

I would go 4 year deal

$750,000 per year plus $150,000 "club marketing" = $900,000 per year =$3.6 million 4 year deal

LOL You can't just throw in 150k and call it marketing. Everything had to be within the cap.

Jeez journos have it easy. Basically the story hasn't changed for weeks, yet one is printed almost daily, with the contents being repeated.

Yeah, you can!

Step 1: Go to Coles or Woollies.
Step 2: Purchase 2 packets of brown paper bags.
Step 3: Place money in bag.
Step 4: Hand to Travis.

You do realise that when Cloke signs his contract (and I believe he will) the article in the press will immediately turn to the next player(s). Beams, Reid, Harry, etc.

In the meantime how is Goddard's contract going?
