Cloke is having the same adverse effect on our attempt to win another flag as MM did last year as a result of his comment on the Footy show and his behavior afterwards. At that point it became all about MM.
Nothing gives me any confidence that Cloke is staying. In simple terms, Collingwood cannot equal the deal being offered by the Dockers without adversely effecting our club. To do so would have an adverse impact on our retention of other "must Keep" players for the next five years. That's a long time in footy. It would be totally unacceptable to develop some stars from our newer recruits and not be able to retain them due to the constraints caused by a Cloke deal equalling $1m per year fro 5 years.
At this point in time it would be reasonable to assume that the CFC have offered him the best deal they are prepared to commit to. Nothing is going to change and it is reasonable to think that the club will NOT increase their offer.
When taking into account his effort on the field and the fact that he has not signed, it would be reasonable to think that he is GONE. When considering his attitude the sooner he goes the better as on current form he is going to be little assistance in helping us win the ultimate prize this year.
Two years in a row our team's effort to win the flag have been undermined from within. To win, a whole lot of things need to go your way. These types of issues are enough to undermine the process.
If you don't want to be part of the CFC and our future then f$%^ off.
If he does want to stay, take the offer that is on the table, sign the contract and get on with it.

Cloke has already said he wants to stay at Collingwood, he's said it at least 6 times this season. Rumours are rumours, he's contracted until the end of the season, he's been having different issues for awhile now, seems now it's a bigger focus because he's not signed a contract.
No doubt that there's a little bit of contract issue in it, but not all of it, and I also don't believe he'd be having issues if he had already decided he was leaving either.
I think they need to sit him down, and work on what is going on in his head, and leave the bullshit excuse of contract issues for the media to bleat on about.

He is certainly playing like he is already at Carlton.
If the club does not put a deadline on this not just for the sake of our season but for the opportunities in the Trade period then it is just stupid.
If he does go then the club is armed with $4m over 5 years in the cap to take into the trade period. Better to know this before the Trade period rather than let it drag to the end of October like his last negotiations.
Although the rules a different this year because the Trade Period is over a month. When does Cloke have to state his "best offer" and how many offers are clubs allowed to make? Collingwood still has the right to match any offer as he is restricted (not that they should)

Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy.
Typically, you would expect that Cloke can sign any offer sheet that he want's with another club on any terms and we have a period to match it. He can either sign the best deal he can, or he can sign the best deal he thinks collingwood will match. its up to him.Johnno75 wrote:He is certainly playing like he is already at Carlton.

When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.
You know I've never realised what a bunch of insecure hysterics some Collingwood suppoters are, going off like fire crackers at the slightest rumour.

Yeah well the players who REALLY want to stay at Collingwood have already signed for less than their supposed market value. The Prototype wrote:Cloke has already said he wants to stay at Collingwood, he's said it at least 6 times this season.

IMO the Freo deal will be off the table, it's pretty much been proven now if Cloke isn't happy about something his form suffers severly, remember the season after he got belted on the GC?, he didn't find form for ages after that, now his form is suffering from the contract talks, if Freo had at least half a brain they'd realise he's a prime candidate for home sickness, and if he suffered from home sickness his form will well, you know.
Here's what needs to happen, we need to offer him what we think he's worth, 4 or 5 years doesn't worry me TBH, but we need to say here's the deal, you have a week to decide, if you don't sign we're not putting anymore games into you, we'll do what's best for us (as you clearly are) and put games into our young KPs.

let him go, i'm tired of hearing about him and his non-commitment to the team. not wanting to sign a contract till the end of the season because that's when it expires is one thing but playing it out in the media (against the club's wishes), whoring yourself out to the highest bidder and demanding more and more money by the week is not doing you any favours trav. your performances up to now have been below average and do not warrant your asking price. the more this drags on the more i lose respect for him. we have a number of players who were prepared to take less money to stay to try and achieve more success. it seems like cloke wants to capitalise on that and what's left over.burnsy17 wrote:Brian is one of the more reputable posters on Nicks, so it's a tough one to dismiss as purely untrue.the fuzz wrote:Im going to pretend I never read thatBrian from Mulgrave wrote:I have it on good authority that Travis Cloke will be at Carlton next year .
