not sure whether many players leaving discussion to the end of the year actually end up staying at the club - does anyone have any examples?

If Travis plays this week I like our chances he will stay
He'll certainly play, I've got no doubt. It's how he plays which I'm interested in. Now's the time to throw himself at absolutely everything if he's going to do any convincing. Things might not work for him but if he looks interested I'll be happy.
That's a big problem! Didn't seem to have the team problem at hand in the last three weeks. Or the opposition backs now know how to play him or his lost interest and is not competing as he should. Jamison took him to the cleaners and a number of Hawks did the same.......... It might be taboo to say this but like in the GF he can't change things around when the opposition get on top. It's up to Travis in the next few weeks. If the trend continues try someone else.
So in other words, the club wont be signing a new contract untill October, just like every other time they have signed him in his career and every other time people told us he was gone
They should have suspended negotiations 12 weeks ago
I think we should drop Dawes and use Cloke to do some of the donkey work in the ruck, especially now that we're no longer concerned about Trav's long term health. I liked Hawthorn's set-up with Hale and Roughead. No reason we can't do better with Jolly and Cloke.

Learnt a while ago not to make decisions or comment while angry.
Went home, flogged the treadmill and feel much better.
From a buisness view point, If he is gone which Im certain now he is I would absolutely play him.
We pay him a salary this year, he needs to earn it.
We need him to play well, we are in the buisness to win games and if we can - a premiership.
What we dont need is for him to be in the leadership group which he is. Id drop him from that and look to play him in a position best for the team.
This could be the ruck forward role giving Dawes a chance to play deep forward to find some form - we will need him next year. The position could be as is if so he plays regardless.
We will not be as good next year without him BUT we will be in the long run. I trust the club. The players that want to be there and signed for less will get their deserved rewards. What it will also do is tell the players that no-one is above the TEAM and team is about sacrafice.
As for next year, if he is part of a flag this year then he would have been a part of 2 at the pies so I would wish him all the best and leave it at that.
This though, is on balance of probability not likely so if he goes without another flag I will never forgive him. You need a hell of a lot to go right to win it and he has been a big part of what is going wrong at the moment.
Development is a 2 way street and those that say he owes collingwood nothing is just wrong.
I hate losing any premiership players however I would hate it more if David Cloke cost's us players who want to stay.

don't we have the oppoprtunity to match any offer? maybe the club has decided:
(1) Ball is in your hands Trav
(2) Decide to move then we will see if we think you are worth it or if we have room to afford you, or if we prefer to use the picks to draft/trade someone who can kick straight (fev?)
don't forget David Cloke was once a captain & premiership player for Richmond and came to the Pies for money? like father like son. we eventually let him go and he returned to Richmond

It's obvious he won't be staying, even if your source says so. If the bloke gave a stuff about the club, he would have signed weeks ago.
Selfish prick if you ask me. And to be honest I don't know how he can hold he head high with the input he has put in the last few weeks. Look at his effort against Jamieson who incidentally had a suspect shoulder. The bloke is biding his time. If I was Buckley I'd drop him and give the spot to someone who wants it more...
Oh and this one is for Nick Maxwell, if I hear the mantra of "Are you with us" as part of the membership drive one more time, I'll vomit, because there is one player that certainly "isn't with us"....
