Re: Nathan Brown consistently poor

As soon as I noticed Brown's name I had dark thoughs about tonight, and when Reid was deliberately taken out by Kosi the thoughts became darker and darker. Thank God Reid is made of sterner stuff because Nathan Brown is a one trick pony, and he seems to think that looking as if you're trying is good enough. Personally, I'm sick of it and we need to use some of Nathan's money to keep Cloke however, Trav should not expect anymore than about $100K short of Swanny and Pendles per year.

Maybe Nathan would like to play in WA with his brother because watching the Derby today they have a lot in common. They look like hard at it footballers and as long as you don't watch them play, you are very positive they are.
Nathan Brown is coming back from a knee reconstruction. He needs to be given time to get back his closing speed (which is quite absent this year). That doesn't mean he should play FB ahead of Tarrant, if Tarrant is fit, but it would be stupid to let him go.

Also, looking at the wash-up tonight, the tall defenders did reasonably well, for the first time in quite a few games. I was a little disturbed that the first time Reid went hard at a marking contest, he nearly took Jolly's head with his knee - but he seemed to click after that and perform better in the air than he has for most of the year.

Now I know Im a pie supporter, but tiprat had eyes on harry - not the ball - and punched harrys shoulder/arm - not the ball.
I know these are often paid or let go it was a 50/50 except his eyes were not on the ball !!!!!

If Collingwood had lost tonight, it would not have been his fault. Like Seedsman, he's being asked to slot into a spot to which he isn't particularly suited because there isn't anyone else. That's a bit of a shame, really, because Martin Clarke should be playing that spot but, after his atrocious (and, frankly, uncompetitive) game against GWS, they could hardly have left Clarke in the side this week.

As for suggesting Tom should be delisted, that's just seriously unfair. There were a whole lot of players firing blanks tonight - why pick on one kid?

Personally, I was angrier with Swanny for missing a simple shot from 30m out, straight in front, in the third. Sidey, Daisy, Goldie - just to think of the ones that came immediately to mind - all missed gettable shots when they had plenty of time to steady and kill the game. If they'd just nail the easy ones, they wouldn't need to do so many hard things.
+1
Ben Johnson was a dud for his first 25 games, but the critics here are either to young or to old to remember - if Marty had Youngs attack on the ball and hardness then we wouldnt be playing Young.

Totally agree.

They probably don't want to see the words 'Grand Final' and Collingwood together, ever again, but this match was close to their GF for 2012. Big loss.

The Saints are now 2 wins below 8th. spot on the ladder.

We are 2 wins above the Weagles & Cats (equal 5th.) and in the top 4. Second, at the moment.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

You think too simply Pie 65. At this stage of the season if you want to win a flag we need to be winning games by playing more convincing football than this. This standard of play will not win a PF. I'm looking for the way we win not just winning anymore. A win is a win is ok from Round 1 up untill 6 weeks out, we need to start looking like a champion. Cats are clearly starting to heat up, Hawks are hot, we can't seem to plug the kettle in.

I think Young may well develop into a good player. Not a good game tonite but he has height and strength and he needs to get to 30 to 40 games before any judgment.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

Should have won by more but glad we held on, interested to see the MRP results on Monday, two head high bumps and Milne's studs first raised leg slide into Joll's was outright dangerous!

Why is the Milne free kick controversial? Had no eyes for the footy & made front on contact.

At last, someone positive!!!!

Second on the ladder after an injury season from hell!

Go Pies, Go Buckley! Side by Side!

Rest of you negative d!cks, go barrack for the scum.
+1 Same negative c.ockheads in gameday thread week in week out. Sitting in second place given our injury run and you want to sack the coach. Deadshits.
Was it a great win? Yes, a very critical one too, in the context of the season. However, would you be saying that if we got rolled tonight?
2nd place at present, and we were kick away from losing our spot in top 4, which is efffectively curtains for 2012.
Yes the injury run sucks arse. We know. On that we all agree.
Please be as positive as you like, that's fine.
But don't go bagging other posters because they dare suggest something is rotten in Denmark.
Our disposal stinks, players turned up for 3rd quarter like they've spent the 1/2 time break getting blind at a pub?
The team is carrying an underperforming overated, overpaid egomaniac moron [and his idiot father]. No names though!
As for what goes on in the coaches box, well, nobody really knows, as the players can't seem to settle on a game plan for 4 quarters to execute the task.
A few of us on the forum find this somewhat perplexing, since it is now August. Particulary when other sides are finding form.

So you'll have to excuse us for being a little anxious and cranky.

We beat the Cats a few weeks ago.

The fact is we haven't had a settled side all year. We'll take a bit more time to click, if we can settle it down.

Right now, winning is enough. The Saints are not a rubbish team and we beat them. What we've seen all season is that we don't always look great, but we are almost always competitive. Looking to other games and saying "we don't play to that standard" is silly. A game is played differently depending on the opposition.

We know we are a competitive team that has won the close games. Come finals, games are one big scrap, and not usually overly pretty. We've been good in these games all year, and are ready for finals. Whether we're good enough to go all the way, time will tell. But we are well positioned and are as good a chance as most any team.

The next month is a great opportunity to play our best footy. We'll be coming up against some good opposition.
Well done boys!

Good teams find a way to win and we did. Dubious free kick or not, we're usually on the other end so I'll take it. Considering they pushed everyone back at every opportunity, I think Heater was in in our bests and Tooves was good as well. Like Carlton, Saints shut down Beamsy and Daisy will be cherry ripe for the finals. Give Tommy some time to develop. He had some bad moments tonight but found himself on quality palyers like Goddard at times.

Game against the Swans next week will tell us a lot about both teams.

That's the most concerning thing. It's not that we only won by 6 points, it's the style that we play that is a worry. The opposition are allowed to hold on to the footy too long by not manning up.

Young & Seedsman simply are not ready for AFL, but are forced to play due to our injuries. If Ball, Krak, Caff, Johnno & Dids were all fit then Young, Seedsman, Sinclair & Elliot wouldn't be playing, at least not regularly. Not many 18 or 19 year old can step straight into AFL and play like seasoned veterans. However, it is frustrating to watch when their reflexes are a bit slow.

I thought it should have been paid a mark to be honest^,but no doubt we'll hear a lot of whingeing in the media about how the Saints were 'robbed' of the game by the umpires.
