Seriously though, and I am not directing this at you specifically, instead of coming onto this forum and spewing poison and bile, posters should offer considered assessments and maybe even suggestions.

You have to agree that at least half of what gets posted is bordering on abuse of our football club. I, for one (and there appear to be others), don't think it's justified.

I'm over the emotional, knee-jerk reactions.
Yeah Pabs, thanks, and i'm currently bidding on Ebay for a life, which has apparently eluded me for the last 42 years...

But yes, in this great big melting pot of Nicks, we get plenty of positive and negative opinion, some of it rather extreme and over the top, both ways, as you are obviously aware.
And yes some posts do border on abuse, most likely born out of frustration that the team is not re-producing the results from the corresponding months of 2010, with the same desire or system.

So are those opinions justified strictly to the letter of "Side by Side" motto? Then of course you'd have to say a resounding no to that.

I'd say that the measured considered assessments and suggestions you seek are more likely to be published in post-match thread a day or two after the result. But are rarely posted in those few hours after the game concludes - we all seem to vent, to get it off our chests.
And i don't have a problem with that. It's a coping mechanism and nothing more. Our love for the club doesn't vanish in the space of a week.

I appreciate you saying that you are over the emotional, knee-jerk reactions, then that's a quite a valid statement too.
Again i say, if you find a post upsetting, then absolutely hit the "quote" button and challange that opinion, and defeat them with logic?
You've probably noticed a lot of name calling and sniping between posters going on this season on this forum? Please don't lower yourself to that level.

cheers Pabs

The second quarter is the best i have seen us play since the prelim in 2010. Which by the way is the best game of football i have ever seen from us.

We are building.

Keep it up Pies.

St Kilda have been playing very well this year. Watters is a great coach. It's as though their experienced players are refreshed & can play attacking football.

What was positive:

1. We won, got the 4 points.
2. it was a high pressure game (& we won)
3. Superb 2nd quarter
4. Jolly, Swan, Beams, Blair mostly, Harry.
5. Dawes finding it but can he please have his shoulders square with goals? I sill remember McKenna telling Don Scott endlessly that is the way to kick straight. Dawes did kick straight but his shoulders were facing the point posts.
6. Daisy coming into form
7. Pendels getting another game re match fitness

Negatives:

1. Bad kicking
2. Inability to play 4 Qtrs
3. Players like Cloke feeling they have to do it on their own & take low % shots rather than pass the ball on to players in better positions.
4. The coach laving Swan too long in the Fwd line when he was dominant in the middle pushing forward

Seedsman & Young - another game under their belts but Seedsman is too slight to play these games IMO

Elliot for a 100 game player should have had the experience to go back & waste 30 seconds & have a deliberate shot.

Edit: typo's

Agreed. He just gets pushed off the ball way too easily. I love his skills and we should definitely give him games against Gold Coast, GWS, Melbourne and other lighter bodied teams, but he's a liability in games like tonight.

Why do we keep kicking the ball backwards at a 45 degree angle. We often don't switch properly. A switch needs really to be as square as possible and as quick as possible. 2012 is really the year of one on one and attacking as much as possible. At the moment we zone and often go backwards with the handballs. Very little hit up targets and mainly bomb it long going forward. witness the 3rd quarter. Not sure that our game plan has what it takes to beat a side like the Hawks.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

The positives are we won and are now 2 games clear in the 4 and with WCE getting belted we are only about 4 goals behind on % (although we should have taken care of that tonight). Jolls probably played his best gane for us or on par from when he kicked 4 against WCE in 2010. The 2nd qtr was I think close to our best football this year it should have been 9 goals to 1 and should have been 50 up at the long break.

The concerns are what we produced in the 3rd was bad especially the first 7 minutes and only 20 mins after completely dominating. Mistakes in the last qtr was also a worry especially from some senior players. It will be like this come September and decision making and skills need to be better some where even after marks or frees at stop plays and under no pressure other than scoreboard pressure.

I heard Harry on MMM on the way home don't know what Milne said but it fired him up whatever it was. Also heard him say they talked about the fade out in the 3rd and they need to address it during the week but I reckon I have heard it about 8 times this year so I don't know what they are talking about during the week but it ain't working.

Let's hope we are more consistent against the Swans can't afford any lapses or they will crush us. More of what we produced in the 2nd and none of what happened in the 3rd this week boys.

Good win. But we played like a bunch of 1980's Abbottsford pimps at times. I'm getting sick of those flash little handball circle jerks which inevitably end up in the hands of some opposition player, sometimes with bad bad results. Secondly the shortest way between two points is a straightish line NOT a hospital pass straight up in the air that allows every opposition player within five miles to come in and spoil. Way too many of them tonight.

Jolly was good - which idiot here said he was gone a few weeks ago?
Toovey good. Hello! Cloke had two guys on him most of the time. A lot of the time he looked like a decoy more than anything. Get off his back! Dawes did his bit, which is gratifying to em but maybe not some others :D

All in all a sweaty stinky win not perfect but it will do!

PS: My one disappointment was that someone didn't cave the face in of that rat $@&^# little R11691920 Milne. Its the one thing I want to see before I can't feed myself!

PS: Tobacco Road Victorian Shiraz - strongly recommended!

I'm sure you meant 10 game player. Leave it as a brain fade, because 10 games of AFL or 5 games of local under 15's footy, most would have milked the clock in that situation. Like i said brain fade, he would have been thinking goal= Game over, and i'm better of on the run than a set shot. Will never happen from him again under the same scenario.

On Elliot himself; What a beauty of a player, he will hold his spot. Gave plenty at crucial times tonight.

Dyso

Dyso! That's the sort of post I'm after!!! Thought out and considered.

Ironically enough, my own knee-jerk reaction was to react to the negativity!

Anyway, well put and I agree with all your points! Even the admonishment for lowering myself....

Go Pies.

I think it is getting to him now with the mega bucks he feels he is under pressure to kick goals and at times has the blinkers on.

The one where he snapped the point he had two men on and either one would have run into an open goal but Cloke was only thinking about the goals.

It was the win we had to have to keep top 4 alive and we all knew it.
And we did it despite not playing great footy for most of the game.

How we got 25 free kicks is beyond me. Maybe we bullied the umps into giving us a few tonight.

Can anyone tell me who the turd commentator on triple M was who gave Milne 2 votes and Cloke 3??? mind boggling.

Nah, I meant 100 as a response to soo many gettin' down on him: seemed way OTT.

I agree a brain fade - but he's a youngster & he'll learn. On my sofa I went back & calmly slotted it through
