What a shitty, shitty thing to happen. Feel for his family, and his team mates there with him who may have witnessed it. How horrific for them as well.

RIP JMac.

Makes other things we get narky about seem totally insignificant. RIP Johnny Mac. Was very popular with our playing group. They will be inconsolable...

An AFL player has died in Las Vegas

Details are still vague, but it is understood the footballer, who used to play for a Melbourne club, fell from a hotel balcony and was fatally injured.

Radio in Adelaide reported the player is from Port Adelaide, where it is known around a dozen players are on a end-of-season trip.

Port then put out a statement saying club officials were on their way to America, but had not confirmed the players' identity.

"The Port Adelaide Football Club has been informed that an Australian man who has died in Las Vegas is believed to be one of its players," the statement said.

"At this point, the club is unable to confirm the identity of the player involved in this tragedy as family members are still being informed.

"A group from the Port Adelaide playing group left Adelaide on Saturday for a holiday.

"The club is in contact with members of the travelling group and is working with U.S. authorities while investigations continue.

"Port Adelaide general manager (football) Peter Rohde is on his way to the United States to be with the players.

"The club has also made contact with its other players still in Australia.

"The Port Adelaide Football Club is attempting to ascertain more information and is unable to make any further comment."

The midfielder was drafted by Collingwood with the 31st selection in the 2007 National Draft.

He was delisted by the Pies at the end of the 2011 season, and picked up by Port in the pre-season draft.

His father Shane and brother Matthew both played league football with Geelong.

He also had two uncles, Bernie and Gavan, who played for North Melbourne.

More to come
Go Pies!!!

His poor, poor parents, being a dad and a grandad, I am just sickened for them right now. Thoughts and prayers with them all.
