Out : Dawes, Jolly
In : Wood, Paine.
...Assuming Dids is ok. Dawes surely can't be right after that. I think we should rest Jolly as Sydney's ruck stocks are not that strong, and we will need a fit and able Jolly the week after if we make it. An injury to Jolly next week, and there's no chance at all.

So, do we want it to belt down rain or not? I'm thinking yes - surely anything that will slow Sydney after a two week break would work to our advantage?swoop wrote:Perfect...bring it ontomoleary wrote:I can tell already that it's gonna be the Sydney Swans, 3 Umpires, a Sydney home crowd, the AFL and the rest of Australia vs Collingwood.
Will we run out of pertol tickets in the final quarter if it is a dry night?

I prefer dry, less toll of the body, especially if we have to face the Hawks the following week.
Their game will like a training drill.

Interesting article by Tim Lane on the weekend regarding home ground advantages in team sports with large crowds. Been proved statistically the only advantage at all in any sport is the home team's crowd influencing the umpire. Outside of the lopsided free kicks due to one team cheering for infringements there is no advantage at all.
In fact it has been proved even travel has no statistical relevance. The conclusion is the away team can weaken the influence the umpires have on the result by attending in large numbers and being exceptionally loud in their appeal for free kicks.
Therefore it is up to us to get there and scream our lungs out.

With all due respect to the boys, it's only an hour by plane. They are not playing in Stalingrad.woftam wrote:Going to be really tough on our lads.Jolly Good wrote:Wonder what effect JMac's funeral on the Thursday will have on our players.
It is not only the emotional drain they face, it is also the additional travel to Sorrento and back, and the disruption to their normal preparation for an Interstate game.
They are going from the funeral straight to the airport & have to play the next night. It's going to be even more difficult for them than this week I reckon. Not a lot of time to get focused. Good luck boys.
Besides, we travel well

Are you kidding me? You seriously think we need to 'rest' jolly and bring in wood? We won't make it to next week if wood plays and jolly doesn't..Mugwump wrote:Out : Dawes, Jolly

Buckley is not Malthouse. He isn't about to debut a player in the biggest game of the year so far.
In: Wood, (Seedsman)
Out: Dawes, (Didak)
Seedy only comes in if Dids doesn't get up. Reports from this morning were that everyone pulled up fine at recovery though, but you'd have to think you aren't going to carry an injury like Dawesy's in a final like this. One false move and he's gone.

Wood or Jolly playing fwd for lengthy periods would be exploited by the opposition backs. They would run off either one. SUrely you are better off losing some ruck contests by throwing Paine or Brown into the Ruck when fwd or Back etc than losing a key part of your fwd structure!
Woods has shown nothing up fwd and very little in the ruck this year - I wish it was not the case but it is. Paine is a better fwd and that is who we (may)need to be replace! Clearly 3rd man up will need to be considered when Jolly is resting.
Our backs are looking good - Krak and Cloke are looking good up fwd and the mids are looking good - they haven't all clicked together as yet but they are all improving... The Pies are coming at the right time of the year...

If Dawes is right he'll play, as the alternatives (well, alternative really: Paine; no other realistic option) are far from ideal.
Well done boys!
