No coach in the country could have done more than Bucks did this year with the unsettled line-up due to injuries to key players, the Cloke saga and having to put up with MM sniping in the media. Bucks has been a sensational coach. I'm extremely proud of him and the team this year.
Nothing to do with Mick. Just my assessment of the year. We've gone backwards from last season. And I think injuries are a convenient scape goat. I don't think they had a massive say on our season in the end. We actually had quite a bit of good fortune in the latter half of the year, and stayed relatively healthy.
We never gelled as a team and this is down to coaching. Only two to three good games for a season is not good enough.
One thing I'd like to see next season is that we embrace and develop a genuine tagger.
One thing I hope we don't see next year is the decaying carcass that is the MM boundary line game plan.
I pray this isn't Buckley's football philosophy as well and this season was merely a result of him not wanting to throw the baby out with the bath water.
He has a mandate now to make more significant changes to the game plan ones which the players must accept wholeheartedly.
Time to throw that screaming baby out bucks and start afresh.
I want free flowing, fluent football that gives the players more licence to look for options in the corridor and a forward structure built around hitting up leading targets.
Disappointing end to the season, but I'm very proud of the Collingwood Football Club. You've done yourselves proud to keep yourselves composed despite the injuries, the Cloke saga, the MM saga and of course the tragic death of JMac. Making a Prelim with all these obstacles is a fine achievement. We'll fight on and be back next year.
Also, sorry that Taz couldn't get the Premiership he dreamed for so long. He deserved one after playing in 3 losing Grand Finals. He's been a fantastic player for the club and one that I'll miss watching in the future.
Good luck to the Swans, you deserved the win and I hope you guys beat the arrogant Hawks next week.

Well, I disagree as I thinks Bucks has been great given what he had to deal with. but even if what you say is true, the reality is that MM is no longer our coach so deal with it. If we had had only 2 to 3 good games do your really think they would have been in the prelim?
to all the a&&holes that said our draw was easy
to the media who twist and turn to cover up the universal bias against collingwood
to the umpires (special mention: Schmidt and Stevic)
to the AFL (special mention: umpiring dept, the rules committee and review panel)
to make the prelim after the season we've had was a miracle.
And yes everything that could go wrong, did.
Can Buckley coach? Well, if he is responsible for poor kicking, poor marking and poor decision making, then no.
Was his coaching the reason we even made top 4? Maybe, or was it just a hangover from the great work Mick did?
Cloke and Dawes should have been put in the VFL or the backline 3 months ago.
Was anyone in our team not injured this year?
positives
great wins on Anzac Day, against Geelong in Round 8, the Crows in Rd 9, the Eagles twice, St kilda and the Swans in round 20.
hopefully some of the kids will be better players next year for having a run this year.
Looking forward to Luke Ball coming back and Wellingham cutting his hair.
I know I sound negative, I'm gutted - no other way to describe it.
But I'll be there for every game next year starting with the pre season.

The specifics of the game plan are not important (boundary line; corridor; handballing; kicking - it's all irrelevant. Any of it will work if well implemented). What's important is that all of our structures are perfectly integrated; that every man on the field knows his role intimately, and just as importantly every other player knows the role of his teammates. This is what brings about flowing, fluent football. We had this under Mick in the past two years, even if we did play the boundary.
This year we went backwards and loss the fluidity. The coaches need to work hard at getting it back.

The way some on here are carrying on, you'd think we are the worst side ever to make a Prelim.
I hold a cup of wisdom, but there is nothing within.
A shocking effort and terrible way to end the season. We are not competitive and looked like we had a shit game plan again. Any person who thinks getting done in a Preliminary final like tonight means we can be proud or thinks we have had a good season is a low achiever in life who subscribes to second class quality.
Malthouse got us to the height of excellence. We have now decided we prefer to be back in the days of excuse making and apologist rhetoric for sub standard performances. I was at the game tonight and watched one game a year so called swans fans stick it right up us.
Another year flushed down the toilet because someone had to have the Golden Boy as coach.
Lets start looking at 2013 with a take no prisoners approach. Get some dog eat dog guts and glory approach back into the playing group, otherwise we will be lucky to make the eight next year.
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

Well he or she disagree as he or she must be very smart.

Well said. I just posted that on my facebook in response to a "friend" stirring me by having a go at Buckley. I truly believe Mick could not have done any better. A good outcome for a hard year. Just not the outcome I was hoping for. But the guys did us proud.
We now have a coach who handles himself with dignity and integrity. Its such a refreshing change from the previous 12 seasons. He has been magnificent for our club this season. I couldn't be happier with the change.
Handled the media well. But on field we have gone backwards. I know which I'd prefer to have (hint it's not the media handling ).
It gives me no pleasure to agree with this. I think we paid a price for Nath learning the ropes this year, though it was an unusually tough year for a rookie coach with injuries. i hope he'll reflect on what he learnt and come back more confident and strategic next year.

No, it's the fact that we have a very good side that I only consider a few of our games to have been "good". When you have such a good team, the standards set are high. I could extend it to 3 or 4 if that would make you happier. But most of our wins were scrappy affairs in which we just got over the line. In few, if any games, did we get our ball movement, defensive transition, and goal scoring power all really working.
