Losing is not ok. If it was, then you may well be using the Yen to pay for your road trip next year. Some of us have much higher standards in life then accepting defeat!PeterWH wrote:Considering the 'topsy-turvy' season that the guys had,and also the MM drama with the BOOZE and then telling everyone that he wanted Cloke, and then JMac passing away and all the dramas of the season,I believe that our guys did real well to get where they got.
Although it would have been great to top off the season with a flag, well that was not to be.
To all the knockers,I do suggest that you get of your BUTTS and get involved with the club and SHOW what you can do and what you will do to assist. Its alright sitting behind a PC screen using a name and typing away on a keyboard,BUT geeze what did you lot do before PC's were even invented.......the mind boggles.
There is always next year and hopefully injuries and also the players and the opposition coaches keep their comments to themselves.
2012 is now done and dusted, the guys had a great year,so BRING ON 2013.
I will be touring around Aussie from the start of next year,so I will be reporting on the road and looking forward to it.
Post match. Swans down Pies - all comments please

Yeah
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

And what do you propose we do about it Hiss?
We lost, so fkn what?
Move on mate, we gave it our best shot & we come up short.
Get a grip, it's just a game!

Had a crack, swans too good.
Harry needs to learn that sometimes the basic, first option is the best one. Dont have to baulk 12 players every time.
Swanny was awful.
We'll be better next year... Lots going against us this year with injuries, new coach, cloke drama and J-Mac passing.

to make the prelim after the season we've had was a miracle.
And yes everything that could go wrong, did.
Can Buckley coach? Well, if he is responsible for poor kicking, poor marking and poor decision making, then no.
Was his coaching the reason we even made top 4? Maybe, or was it just a hangover from the great work Mick did?
Cloke and Dawes should have been put in the VFL or the backline 3 months ago.
Was anyone in our team not injured this year?
positives
great wins on Anzac Day, against Geelong in Round 8, the Crows in Rd 9, the Eagles twice, St kilda and the Swans in round 20.
hopefully some of the kids will be better players next year for having a run this year.
Looking forward to Luke Ball coming back and Wellingham cutting his hair.
I know I sound negative, I'm gutted - no other way to describe it.
But I'll be there for every game next year starting with the pre season.

You're having a go at the one bloke who really took the game on?burnsy17 wrote:Had a crack, swans too good.

Harry was brilliant last night. Made maybe two mistakes. But he was the only player that was prepared to do what was needed out of defense and set up at least 3 goals all on his own. Taking on tacklers, running and kicking up the middle; it's high risk, high reward stuff. Last night it was almost all reward for Harry. He was our best player by quite a way.
He could have played it safe like Shaw. Hold the ball up, then kick it down the line, backwards or to a short open target. But that gets us nowhere and keeps us pinned back like we were almost all game.
Well done boys!

The Jmac funeral aside the usual problems killed us last night as they have all season. The boys tried their best but it was too big an ask for them to beat Sydney who are a superior side to us at the moment.
Below are some things arising from the match last night and representative of known problems we have
1. Ineffectual kick outs and kick out planning mean that as often as not the ball is turned over and is straight back into the opposition forward fifty again. Its been endemic all year and its a key thing to get right over the off season. (Leon says hello BTW. What was he really worth to us?).
2. Poor defensive planning at stoppages. For example some sides have worked out that if you can get the ball to the edge of the stoppage pack you can get the ball to a stoppage sweeper who will clear it for the opposition every time. We don't play such a sweeper any more. Hawthorn always do that to us and so did Sydney last night.
3. Ineffectual half forward line. Krakouer injured then slow and underdone when he came back. Sinclair and Elliott - good kids but not physically imposing nor consistent enough. The Prince of Perth? Classy, elegant - does **** all. Sidebottom? Developing bad habits - would rather turn the ball over than be tackled, no defensive pressure, becoming lazy and dare I say it - soft. Lots of work to be put into the forward line again. If Macaffer doesn't come up and also progress a tall half forward will be needed also.
4. Dawes is starting to impose at second ruck at times. So the question is do we need another second ruck or do we need a another key forward?
This might sound like Im bagging the team but I'm not. We did about as well as could be expected and for me its a pass for both coach and team. The boys did their best in what was a confronting year from start to finish and you can't ask for more than that.
However those issues need to be addressed or to show progress next year for us to at least to maintain our current position in the league.

do all you morons that think being proud of them is wrong expect us to win the GF every year? honestly? Because it sure does sound like it. Grand finals are won by good structured, injury free ( mostly ) and consistent teams. Of which we are maybe 1/3 ( with a structure that needs to be looked at next year ) . I just can't stand reading all this 'f**cking piss poor effort' etc, we have been blessed with success at this club and have a shot at the flag for probably another 3 years if we keep the personal we need, get over it. If melb/freo/rich/dogs etc supporters read this thread I recon they would be in disbelief.

We were never going to win, a team with an weeks extra rest v a team who had a hard slog the week before and an emotional week on top of that. It's not hindsight it's reality. We were stuffed as we ran out. Had it been a normal week we would have won as they were shocking. Whoever they play will win the flag.
Massive effort by the team to get to 4th as we were gone after round 3 and with so many injuries we looked set to struggle to make the top eight.
Footy season is over, look forward to next year. Now starts the off season which means painting and renos back in full swing.
Note: Wellers worse game ever.
