Fair calls David and tannin.

Mind you, IF this bloke has written about indigenous communities without having any experience or first hand knowledge, AND wins, either he's got some serious talent or the judges are suckers.

I've since read this blokes poem and while he doesn't specifically say he is a native Australian it is written to suggest he is. Nothing wrong with that but why change the name of the author to reinforce the misconception?
If I changed my name to Michelle and wrote a poem telling woman what it is like to suffer at the hands of a male orientated society (or be raped or discriminated against) and entered it into a prestigous award and with-out the XY admission, Id be lambasted from here to the end of my life.

I spoke with him this morning and urged him to come clean but he said the poem is about what Aboriginals really feel about this country.
I asked him not to accept the prize or to admit who he really is but he said "that would spoil the fun". He is not trying to be original, he is just trying to shi-t-stir.
Call me old fashioned but but I think this is wrong and bordering on fraud because there are cash prizes available.
Stui asked what this says about the judges.
To me it says the judges wanted to encourage a young, unknown aboriginal man to pursue writing as a career.
Instead have given a broken down 60 year old (that blames the decline in this country and his personal life on woman and the Nanny-state).
He already knows how to write a poem and doesn't need to sink to this level to get himself published.

The Blake is a prize for spirituality.
There is nothing spiritual about this sort of cultural theft.

For anyone that considers his behaviour acceptable read the link or Google Elizabeth Durak.

Oh well, I gave him a chance and no-longer feel that I am betraying him.
(I don't consider him a friend exactly, just some-one I have coffee with twice a week).

....and this is a few of his poems.

Just accessed the Blake site.
The author of the poem in question is now listed as Mick Ringi... a.k.a Patrick McC.

....and here was me thinking he didn't have a conscience.

I like it too. I think I even learned some new words.
