Death of a Collingwood Supporter

Post by Kristin5 »

Just letting you all know than my Nan died on Monday. I am devastated as we were very close.

She was strong though - even on her death bed, she listened to the Collingwood game on Saturday night and when it got close in the last quarter she whispered "Come on Collingwood" and she was delighted that we won. I'm sure she was holding on until we had a win (as she wasn't supposed to have survived past Mother's Day).

She was married to a former Collingwood footballer (Bill Sneazwell, my grandfather, played for Collingwood in the 1927 and 1928 grand finals - he was involved with the past players association until he died in 1967) and she was a staunch supporter all her life.

So we now have another great Magpie in heaven.

Your grandmother must have been a wonderful person, one of that breed of lifelong Magpie supporters that feel the passion right to the very end. And what a legacy your grandparents have passed down to you. Your grandfather was one of that elite team, the best ever seen in Australian Rules Football and your Nan obviously carried that spirit and has handed it on to you.

Whatever it is that awaits us after death is now a much richer place with the arrival of another true believer.

Nick's and my thoughts are with you and your family.

Hello. I'm so glad that your Nan's last experience of Collingwood was a win ... especially that particular win. There was something really spiritual about that match on Saturday night. Maybe we won because someone up there granted your Nan a final wish when she said "Come on Collingwood".

Now she can go and watch Darren Millane, Ray Gabelich, Gordon Coventry and all the other departed Magpie greats winning premiership after premiership in the REAL big League.

Heaven ...
Heaven is a place ...
A place where Collingwood never loses.

Kristen, on behalf of all at the Collingwood football club our deepest condolances at the passing of your beloved "Nan."
It is people like your grandmother and all who really hold the black and white dear to their heart that makes Collingwood what it is.
I'm glad that her last thoughts of our beloved magpies was one of a courageous win celebrated by players and supporters alike across the nation.
May she smile upon a glorious magpie future.
Rest in Peace.

Eddie McGuire, the board, players and administration,

My family and I just want to thank you all for your kind expressions of sympathy. We had a full requiem mass for Nan (because she would have wanted it that way) and as everyone walked out of the church we played the Collingwood song. It sure brought a smile to everyone's face on what was otherwise a sad occasion.

Last week was a tough week for my family, but it was great that the pies came through with a courageous win (at half time I was a bit worried).

I hope we can go all the way this year for Nan (and I have got my Canadian cousin completely hooked on the Pies - she said that if we make the grand final she's going to fly over for it).
