#2 Jordan Russell
Took a hit to save his team a goal, the way he backed back and "took one for the team" was fantastic stuff for someone who has just arrived at the club.

At the same time, young Tom Young did very well with the Doggies on Saturday (looked far better than his time at the Pies to me) be great to see the lad to well at the kennel.warburton lad wrote:Better than Tom Young?? Tick.
Better than Dawes?? Tick.
Better than Wellingham?? No, but an honest player still.

Robbo was also used to kick out... With Clinton Young also set to take kick outs it seems we have addressed a major weakness post Leon Davis.
The depth in the side is very impressive - some good (targeted) recruits and some youngsters pushing the seniors for selection is very similar to 2010...

Thought Russell was very solid. He and Young may play at the expense of others. BJ comes to mind, But when BJ is up and running, he provides great drive.
It is hard to determine , when/if we get a fully fit list, how we will fit a team into the 22.
Russell may be one on the edge, but if he continues on yesterday's benchmark, hard to see him being dropped.
IMO certain to come back in and players that could lose their spot.
Thomas > Dwyer
Ball > J.Thomas
Shaw > Frost
Beams > Clarke
Young > Russell????????????????
Didak > Elliot or McCaffer or Goldsack (all really stiff)
Krakour > Sinclair (really stiff)
Didak and Krakour need to get fit. Because they can't be given a game in front of Sinclair, Caff, Goldsack, or Elliot unless they are cherry ripe.
The above list makes no allowance for.....
Fasolo
Keefe
or Paine either
Shaw and Young are the two that will be placing pressure on Russell's position. Although, Young was recruited as more a wingman than Back (one of the reasons he joined us was for that opportunity)
But all up, impressed with Russell. From my experience watching him at the Blues, his decision making and appears panicked when under pressure is his biggest worry (flash back to Simon Buckley?). But saw none of that at the Pies yet.

@melliott
I don't have Young in defense (not permanently anyway). I see him taking Clarke's place on the wing, as I reckon he's a very suspect defender. Russell has shown himself to be better suited to defense and if he can hold down that spot, it allows Young and O'Brien to play on the wing.
It will still be difficult to fit him into the side if absolutely everyone is fit, but he's there now, these other players are going to need to show something t push him out (aside from the automatics).
A good problem to have anyway. Now we just need to get everyone fit.
