from what I heard on the radio, we we just crap. wasted opportunities thru bad kicking for goal (story of the season). long way to go yet folks, and although we were pitiful, we still coula pinched it given a little luck. we had a go, butsometimes you have those days! long way to go in the season still, let's be a little positive.

Sorry, but I WOULD say there was a distinct lack of guts in at least 3 players' cases: Lane, Betheras & Freo. They all had real chances to put in a few times and simply jogged near the contest rather than sprint there and dive in. It shocked me more than anything because Betheras is usually one of the gutsiest and Freo's often right in there...as for LAne....

alf
"gutless" is probably too harsh term , but it was really refelective of a couple of incidents where putting your body on the line can turn the game. A couple of times when Sydney won the ball and goaled from a lose play 20 meters out really cost us. Im sure the players hurt and would also feel that they had let themselves down when a good opportunity presents.
Perhaps 2 hours after the match is sometimes the wrong time to be review the game, but its a good time feel the pain and learn from the mistakes, not two days later when we "put it in perspective"

Well it's all very easy for you people who are sitting on the otherside of the fence to say some of our boys are gutless. Listen I'm dissapointed that we lost, we never looked like winning yet we only lost by 3 goals, not bad for a supposidly gutless side. I love the pies and even on a bad day like they had yesterday they still put up a fight. Collingwood has always played with heart and always will.

Good luck to the pies on Monday, let's get those little "go dee's " tossers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C'MON EVERYONE - THAT WAS UTTER S**T. Collingwood played worse than fremantle!! Sydney was so bad last week, freo nearly beat them - then they come out and play like champions making us look like woooden spoon material!

That was an un-inspiring, spineless, insipid performance. The umpiring didn't help, our inaccuracy didn't help, but the harsh cold facts are that this team is still short of at least 5 more proven hard at it players. And without buckley there is no leadership. Tarrant can hold his head up, but everyone else should take a good look at themselves. The Sydney and June bogeys continue.....

I didnt say they were all GUTLESS.. they were sometimes not looking interested in chasing, or manning up.. Some players ought to have a good hard look at themselves, and Im sure Malthouse will give them a good hard looking too!

sydney always had two or three players who were on their own, and this made it hard for our backmen. Freeborn hardly layed a tackle, Lane didnt bother to man up a couple of times,

I don't agree that they were gutless, 'cause by christ it takes a lot of guts just to play every week. Ask any footballer that has played seniors at any grade. We let ourselves down with terrible disposal, and a lack of "accountability". We looked flat, and I dare say that the adjulation over the past few weeks may have lead them to think that they are better than they really are, and that a comeback would just happen. We need Chad Rintoul back, Chipper in the middle, p*ss off Lane, and I know I'm being harsh here, but benny Johnson needs to go back to the ressies and learn how to kick. What disappoints me the most is I really think we will miss the finals again, and my patience is starting to wear out.

I don't think it was a lack of guts that lost us the game. I think it was due to that crap flooding game that Sydney play. We just couldn't play our usual running game because of this. We looked lost for ideas because they just stacked players in our attacking half. There must be something done about this. It makes the game unattractive and turns into something resembling rugby. How about a line accross the centre. Only on ballers can go in both halves. Defenders can not go into the forward zone and forwards can not go into defensive zone. Sounds a little harsh I know but I am sick of watching these tactics as it makes our game look shite.

I don't know what to put our loss down to, but i know it wasn't because of gutlessness, if that's even a word.
Nothing seemed to be going right for us, even Chrissy T of all people's kicking wasn't too great, and you won't see that too often. I know it may have seemed to people like they weren't giving it their all, but that's what they were out there to do and I can assure you that is what they were doing. I just don't see how we can win at Footy Park with all odds against us, and against teams like Carlton, and then lose to Sydney on our turf. I don't get it I really dont. Things just weren't going right and that's all i can put it down to.

Well let's just put it in perspective.
Yes we had a shocker but we were just outplayed and outcoached.
They have had the wood on us for a while and they play colonial as good as any team does , while we really do struggle playing at the shithole.
There style of game works against us because they cut off all our strengths and wait for us to turn the ball over as any team does when they become frustrated and become stagnet.
The signs were there early on and we really have to work on our starts alot more because they are costing us dearly.
In reality i'm sure if we were asked at the start of the year if we would be happy with a 5-5 record after 10 games we would have all taken it.
This team will learn from it's mistakes and if you think that we are upset think about the way the team is feeling , i'm sure they are feeling dejected themselves.
The character of the club will shine next week and god help Melbourne because they won't know what's hit them.
Lets get behind the boys and support them as the future is still looking bright.

Sydneys game plan was to flood the back line to stop the leads of our forwards which has been our strength this year. The fact that we are only a young side, we didn't have the maturity and experience to assess and alter our game plan accordingly.

Our poor disposal was primarily due to Sydneys man-on-man approach in the midfield and double teaming on our forwards.

The major disappointment for me was that our loose players seemed to be playing in the midfield therefore robbing us of the run out of half back. Stafford killed us in the ruck giving their midfielders first use of the ball making our "spare" players in the middle inneffective.

As a growing side, we will learn to overcome and adjust to the various tactics that opposition teams will throw at us.

It only comes through experience!
