I'll begin with the positives. Did exceptionally well to make the finals despite an interrupted year marred by injury and inconsistency but we were always going to be up against it when things got serious.
I expected more from the team tonight and I'm bitterly disappointed in the effort. As far as I'm concerned, they may as well not have shown up. It was always going to be the same mistakes that came back to bite us in the end and we saw it week after week. Where was the desire and will to win when the game was on the line?
In finals, the best teams find a way to win, no matter what. Port came to play and we didn't.
- Poor decision making
- sloppy disposal
- not manning up
- giving opponents too much space
- inaccurate in front of goal
- giving away stupid free kicks that ultimately cost the team dearly (yes heath, I'm talking about you)
- lack of defensive pressure
- slow to move the ball
- kicking to blokes with 2/3 opponents on them
time to focus and rebuild for next year.

Played like the holiday jet was on standby at the airport.
Hope there are no dwarfs in wheel chairs hanging around Monday,
Get them rested, get them fixed properly, not patched up, get them fit and firing, and get them hurting and hungry.
And here we go again, bring on 2014.
Side by Side.

This is what bothers me. Wee seem to continually bomb the ball inside our forward 50. It seems to me to be a kick and hope plan. Hardly ever do we look for or have a forward target leading to advantage.Neil Appleby wrote:Even when we had the momentum, Port were able to regain it partly due to our hopeless disposal inside 50.
Very frustrating tonight that is for sure.

That was the most disappointing finals performance I can remember. Bucks was out-coached there is no doubt about that. All year we have not been able to capitalise on the 2 to 3 players on Cloke up field. Bucks showed a lot of faith in the youth this year and I think a lot of them played like it was their first final. They'll be better for the experience. I'm absolutely gutted but I'll be 100 per cent behind them and the coach next year .... It's all about the Loyalty.
On a more positive note .. unfortunately about Port Adelaide and not us. How refreshing it was to hear a club president (Koshi) speaking like a real footy fan and decent human being before the match. He said quite openly that if James Heard was at Port he would never coach them again. I have nothing but respect for Koshi. I hope he goes into politics one day.
Have a great summer people. Come up for the Gabba match next year.
Go Pies !!!!

marley williams, blair and goldy were the only ones who looked like they gave a crap- anyone who has bagged blair all year can get stuffed- clearly you just look at stats- he at least tries his guts out every week.
marley is an absolute gem- if the rest of our team played like him we would never lose.
swanny was jekell and hyde- almost won us the game- yet also cost us the game.
elliot started well but after misses and poor pass- lost confidence- dont really blame him- where was the leadership to tell him to go back and kick it.
well done port
bring on 2014

You clearly haven't watched much footy over the past four weeks to think that about Brown and Blair. True Blair wasn't doing much in the middle part of the year but he has been a tassie devil the past 4-5 weeks. Sure we'd love for him to get 20+ every week but I'll take his 9 tackles and 13 touches from last night. As for Brown not sure what his opponent scored last night but he hasn't done a thing wrong over the past month (again questions hovered over him for a while this season but felt he came good).Adz wrote:Can someone tell me the point of Nathan Brown? Aside from his looks?
Doesn't beat his opponent ever...doesn't get a kick ever?
He is literally paid hundreds of thousands to run around an oval.
Blair is another who literally has barely had a touch all year yet somehow has got a spot.
Disgusting.
Damn ... And I said I wouldn't engage in infighting

Disappointing end to an enjoyable season.
We have played good and bad all year. Its hard to be up every game and this was a bad one. Similar to many teams around us like Richmond, Port, Carlton, North who are great one week and ordinary the next, That is why we were sixth.
As for the game, Harry useless as spare man in defence - didn't stop anything.
Our foot skills were ordinary.
Heath with a usual brain fade that cost a goal, giving them a run.
Kicking inside the 50 - why so many short passes that don't work.
Where is our crumbing forward. If they are going to double team Cloke put a crumber around him.
Experimenting with Keefe in the ruck and forward in a final ?
Overall happy with the season considering we used 40 players and had some injuries through the year. The list of players with less than ten games due to injury surprised me.
NFL has started. Great to watch and little emotional involvement.
See you in 2014. Happy Holidays !

That's not infighting, that's questioning another's footy judgement and rightly so.GoWoodsmen wrote:You clearly haven't watched much footy over the past four weeks to think that about Brown and Blair. After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
Collingwood rules the world again and Mick Malthouse fulfils his destiny with the twenty ten premiership and can you hear the people sing!

Oh my goodness, window shut, sack the coach, sack Brown, clear out Daisy, for fuc sake people, harden the fuc up. We lost a final, on the back of our second annus horribilus in a row. Multiple injuries to key players, many interrupted pre-seasons and several minor scandals. As I posted in another thread:
Toovey back, a full unhindered pre-season into Beams, Ball, Young, Fasollo, Keefe and perhaps Daisy if he stays. Grundy and Witts to take centre stage and Lord knows what miracles Hine will work this year. Young Broomhead, who can obviously play, will get an uninterrupted pre-season and I have no doubt will debut. Perhaps a fitness department make over is on the cards and who knows what free agency is going to deliver.
I'm saddened by last night but extremely pumped for what lies ahead, bring on 2014 and the return of the MIGHTY FIIGHTING PIE.
