Firstly, don't use David Campese's effort as a guide to respond to anything I have to say.

Secondly, disagreeing with something doesn't have one "up in arms". I simply disagree with CA's stance on this one.

Thirdly, if all individual cases regarding sponsorship are to be judged on their "merits", what organisation is going to pump money into a sport/team, that lets their players pick and choose whether to wear their logo or not?? Especially if that brand is going to be held up as morally wrong by one group or another in such a public manner??
This is not that "slippery slope" you keep questioning???????
Should an organisation such as CA ensure that every individual on their books is happy with the situation prior to signing a sponsor??

Lastly, you can disagree without taking someone else's view to the absolute extreme end of the scale, when in reality it is a little more mild than you represent.

What you suggest overall, is the tail wagging the dog.
If there is nobody to say "no" at some point, all you end up with is chaos.

Insensitive boneheads have a place in this world - as indeed do idealistic communist nancy's........

Also, since you brought up the possibility of a view being disingenuous, this is not a political move by CA at all then.........

Added - if News Limited paid for your footy team's jumpers, shorts, socks, boots, powerade & training footys, in return for their logo being displayed on your jumper - your opposition to that organisation would have you doing:
A
B
C
D

For one thing, this was not a private arrangement between a company and an individual. The player here had no personal dealings with VB. Victoria Bitter's deal was with Cricket Australia, who accepted their money in exchange for their logo being featured on the team uniform. If the sponsor felt that the sporting body was going back on that deal by permitting one player to not display the logo for a pretty damn good reason, then it would be their prerogative to take that up with them. Not yours.

So, remind me of your position on this again?

A) VB have been hard done by?
B) Employers should never make exceptions when it comes to matters of sponsorship?
C) This ruling will unleash a wave of sportspeople refusing to wear sponsors' logos?

As for Campese, you'll recall that it was his bigoted and completely uncalled-for comment that prompted this discussion. Most people, particularly those actually involved in the decision-making process, never even thought Cricket Australia's ruling was in any way problematic. So yeah, I think it's reasonable to presume that anti-Muslim sentiment explains much of the criticism happening here. I haven't worked out your angle here yet.

Well yeah, but I'm hardly arguing otherwise. Players making reasonable requests like this is one thing; players asking to wear jeans and a singlet on the pitch might be another matter. If you can't tell the difference, then, once again, I can only conclude that you are being disingenuous.

I'm not a muslim (big surprise) but say for a couple of alcoholic drinks over the Christmas period I don't drink.

Yet I wouldn't have a problem with wearing a shirt with a beer makers logo on it.

Afterall it's only a shirt and doesn't represent who I am or change my beliefs in any way.

For me this is just another example of religion dictating someones life to ridiculous lengths whether it be Christian or Muslim beer logos, gay marriage or abortion.

I mean it's only a shirt.
