the pies should aim for a young player that can play the luke ball role. then the other pick we should aim for a ruck. (as huddo will call the end of the year 2014) and then just leaving us with grundy witts white from 2015+

It took years but Kouta when he reached his peak was almost unstoppable playing through the middle.

Pavlich is another you would say played as a tall midfielder in periods of his career.

Tall athletic midfielders/utilities will be more common staples within teams into the future IMO.

Anyway no point worrying to much just trust Hine knows what he's doing.

If we took Aish and Bontempelli is gone by 10 then I'll be happy with Lennon or someone like Acres who is a Bontempelli type looking at reports.
I'll be backing whoever Hine takes. I don't know these players at all and am mostly going on their size and basic profile (can't read much into these as they are always far too optimistic), certainly not enough to question Hine's selection. Any qustioning will have to come in hindsight ;).

Dave mentioned Salem above, and going on his profile he sounds great (but don't they all?): excellent skills, good pace, tough and a strong tackler, very good overhead mark. Wallace rates his footskills as the best in the draft and he can do it by left and right foot.

This is why I just stick to types I like without getting too hung up on individuals. We never saw Pendlebury coming, Hine's top 10 could be quite different to that of Terry Wallace and other pundits. And we'd want it to be, if he was just picking the obvious ones he wouldn't be a genius :D.

^While I'll continue to be interested in peoples opinions on who we should take and why I've decided it will be better for my sanity if I just accept that Hine knows much better than me the pros and cons of each player and happily accept the players he selects at pick 6 and 10.

Of course if he takes Taylor or Hartung I can't promise I wont go absolutely ape shit.

LOL.

The nickname has to be witch or burn.

With a surname of Salem who would nasme their kid "Christian"?

We'll draft the kid but ban the folks

Salem reminds me of Paul Licuria in his video. Probably a better kick though. If he has lica's heart he would be a great pick at 10.
Best available at 6.

I do think Freeman seems a real chance. Especially after losing Thomas we're crying out for someone with elite running ability and genuine burst speed, and Freeman tested number 1 at draft camp. I think we need this more than we need height through the middle (already have O'Brien, Pendles, Seedsman, Young, Goldsack, even Karnezis).

I reckon we'll have to take Freeman at 6 if we want him because Melbourne are said to be very keen on him.

Pick 6: Ben Lennon - great kick, clean hands and finds the football.

Pick 10: Cameron McCarthy - great speed for a tall player, excellent mark and reads the ball well in flight, plus kicks goals not points. If not for the broken leg I wouldn't think he'd be available at 10 but that fact could drop him down the order. Given his massive scope for improvement I'd be happy if the Pies decided to use pick 6 on him, I think this guy could be as good as Boyd in the near future (if not better).

Taylor Adams is Luke Ball's successor. Derek Hine said so.

No rucks in the top 10-20 players so won't be chasing them either. Have two rucks about 22 and under so not an urgent priority seemingly.

As for McCarthy, there seems to be about 10 of him in next year's intake so no need to use one of the top 10 picks on him this year I wouldn't expect. We have Darcy Moore rights of course.

Not correct at all, of the 2014 draft prospects only one out of the current top 15 would be close to McCarthy and that's Patrick McCartin who's rated at no.4.

On Moore, most assessments have him as a CHB. Regardless I'd rather have a forward line consisting of Cloke / White / McCarthy and a back line of Brown / Reid / Moore. Makes us tall and mobile at both ends of the ground.

Thanks OEP. I knew you'd have good reasons for your view - hence my question.

By the way, Moore's father played CHB in 1974/5 for what that is worth.
