Who do we draft at 6 & 10 and why?

With one of Aish or Scharenberg likely to slip to 6 it's not a fait accompli that Hine will take Bontempelli at 6.

It's going to be intriguing come draft day what Hine will do with our first pick, with it all depending on how highly he actually rates Bontempelli(assuming he's still there) compared to the names above or indeed someone else.

If he decides on Bontempelli at 6 the one small bonus is that Brisbane or Melbourne will find it hard to overlook any slider like Aish and this will give us greater odds of snaring the player we want at 10.

Of course in the unlikely situation they to overlook the slider it gives us the opportunity to snare an elite top 3-5 talent at pick 10.

P.S-As we haven't had a top 10 pick in the national draft for a while now I haven't taken enough notice of how the draft works these days but am I right in thinking that the top 10 selections are made behind closed doors with the top 10 then identified in reverse order to the public?

That will suck if true as I'd rather see the selections made in order from 1 to 10 and wait with nervous energy hoping other clubs don't select the player I've got my heart set on before our selections come around.

As a matter of interest (sorry haven't paid attention to this for years...), what exactly stops Potential top 10 or even 20 draft picks (guys who will 100% get drafted because they are guns) telling specific clubs not to draft them...?

You know, like someone who refuses to move interstate... or even some lad who grew up all his life going for one club - and frankly won't, or has zero interest to play for another... aka like Bucks did... sorta.

Just interested to know what the real deal is and how draconian the AFL is as far as this subject goes?

There's nothing stopping a draftee deliberately tanking in their interview. If the stories are true, Grundy was a bit of a smartarse to Neeld in their interview, labeling the Dees midfield the softest in the comp.

Draftees can't tell prospective clubs they won't play for them, that's flat-out draft tampering. They even sign binding agreements when they lodge their nomination forms that they agree to play wherever they are picked.

To the best of my knowledge, though, there's nothing to stop a potential draftee 'tanking' their interview with a club they don't want to join (ie: turning up and answering questions like a massive tool, like saying "yep, I'm the best player since Wayne Carey"). It's not an offence to be a massive tool in football, otherwise there'd wouldn't be enough people to play the game. Or run it over at AFL House...

The thing is, the AFL recruiting fraternity talk to each other, even as they keep their poker faces on. If a kid has turned up to an interview and acted like a smartarse, word gets out and clubs can be turned off by that in these days of behaviour standards and public image.

Thus, the draftee's cunning plan to not go to St. Kilda could massively backfire and cause him to not get drafted by anyone...

That is considered draft tampering. If there's any indication of that, theplayer would be excluded from the draft and if they refused to go to the club that drafted them, they wouldn't be allowed to play anywhere.

Yeah pretty sure they brought that in after the first few draft years when the Jarman brothers refused to go and play for the Bears (I think)

Yeah pure logic says that this top ten drafting process woud happen slightly before the "live" TV broadcast starts so that the producers know which highlight packages, pre-recorded interviews etc can be shown in which order. Smoke and mirrors with most TV programs....
