Who do we draft at 6 & 10 and why?

Yes they are more recent examples and I'm sure the 6 clubs ahead of Geelong in the 2006 draft wished they had selected Selwood.

Just hope we are prepared to pull the trigger on Scharenberg at pick 6 and back our medical team to choose the best course of action for him.

Rated by some as the second best player in the draft.

Good friends with Grundy and Kennedy.

I'd take him.

If there are genuine concerns that his foot could be an ongoing problem, we'd only take him at 6 if he is clearly better than the other options, and I'm not sure that's the case. If the concerns are genuine, there is also a good chance he'd slip to 10, so we may not need to take such a risk.

Grundy developed stress fractures of the back after we drafted him, missed half a season but he's still looking alright.

Nothing is a certainty with any player you take but talent is talent and that should be our primary motivation in deciding which player to select.

^^Definitely. But if there's little difference between players except that one has injury concerns over them, you take the one without, that's all I'm saying. Grundy over whoever else was available in the draft last year was a no-brainer, even if there were injury questions. Scharenberg over those who'll be available at 6 if he has genuine ongoing injury concerns? A more difficult question.

^That's fair enough but if Scharenberg is there at 6 and Hine rates him ahead of all others then I hope we take him and not be scared off by the injury concerns.

I guess we'll never be none the wiser anyway how he rates him unless we take him but I hazard a guess he'd be rated top 5 by Hine going on what I've read and the whispers that he might have been our No.1 target should he slide to 6.

Foot injuries are notoriously difficult. Amongst other things & logically (& a statement of the obvious - no sh*t sherlock you might say): your feet carry your weight & (perhaps with some posters here that's quite a load)

Quite simply we need to keep an eye on the feet, while having an ear to the ground

Due (medical) diligence & a good chiropodist are in order.

Hine & Rendell will already be aware of Scharanberg's injuries. Both present & past. Our guys are some of the best in the business. It would not surprise me if things are being leaked to the media to try to scare off opposition suitors. If any of these guys have a cold our guys will know. Keep the faith.

i dont disagree with this. I actually think there seems to be 12 high quality players in this draft and quite hard to tell them apart (other than boyd).

Lennon/Freeman/Mccarthy will all have been considered carefully at collingwood as well as Salem as they all fill a need.

I actually would tend to go with Lennon as another tallish player who can kick a goal is something we really seemed to lack last year and it could free up the Sack to move back to defence.

I think any two of the 8 players we seem to be choosing from (it feels like there are 4 players that we cant get - boyd, Kelly, KK and McDonald) will be great gets.

What i think Hine is faced with is the following:

At pick 6 you would think we take whoever is left out of:

Aish
Billings
Scharenberg

And at pick 10, it will be out of the following (and only 3 are likely to be left):

Salem
McCarthy
Lennon
Bont
Freeman
