The leftovers - rookie draft.

Post by Captain_MyCaptain »

Are we a chance at taking any of these kids?
.................................................................................

MINDS will turn quickly to next week's NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts.

With the bringing forward of the drafts, there is less time to wait and see for the players who missed out at Thursday night's national intake.

Here's some names who will be in contention next Wednesday morning.

Eli Templeton: The Tasmanian midfielder was unlucky to miss out but runs well, kicks well and had a good season. Has some AFL qualities.

James Battersby: A half-back flanker who had a great under-18 championships for South Australia. Collects possessions, is solid with the ball and has a mature frame.

Darcy Hourigan: Won All Australian honours after a standout NAB AFL Under-18 Championships campaign as a key forward, kicking 16 goals. Big and strong.

Kayne Turner: Linked to North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs in the lead-up to the draft, the young hard-at-it midfielder remains a chance to be selected next week.

Blaine Johnson: Thumping right-footer who presents hard at the ball and sticks marks. Kicked 11 goals for Western Australia at the under-18 championships.

Fraser Fort: A tall defender who made some progress at the end of the season. Can also shift forward and kicked 14 goals at TAC Cup level. Is competitive and stands 196cm, a good size for a developing player.

Darcy Cameron: The ruckman was seen as a chance to get selected at the national draft but missed out. His best chance is as a rookie, with clubs more likely to take one in that spot and let them develop.

Matthew Sully: Mature-ager who improved in the VFL this year for Geelong. At 20 clubs know what they're getting and have seen his development in 2013. Powerful key defender.

Not sure whether we have 1 pick for Kelly as FS or the FS + 1 pick. Would like to see Conlon rookied if we have the pick and he is still available. If for no other reason than to make Stui feel better

On name alone Fraser Fort was always going to be a defender!

What's the state of our list?

With all the inclusions and rookie upgrades, how many rookie spots are we able to fill?

I'm hoping Conlan and Gault fill 2 of them, if we have 2.

Well sadly I think we've only got 1 spot left, reserved for Craig Kelly's boy. correct me if i'm wrong.
cheers.

If Thorpe didn't go then why not get him asap.

We have 1 spot left, which I believe is for Kelly.

But we would have another one free if we delist Yagmoor.

Hine could then draft another rookie into that spot.

Mooney is a 'Category B rookie' so exists outside the rookie list and doesn't cost anything, so we don't need to worry about him taking up a spot...

We have 5 category A rookie spots available with the unexpected use of pick 77. Hudson, Frost, Yags, Martin are already taking four of those. Unless another player is delisted we only have one rookie spot available.
If we are taking Kelly then we will officially nominate him on Monday. If we do nominate him, I would say its curtains for Gault unless they delist Yags or Clarke, and even then there's the possibility of Hine choosing Conlon if he's available instead.

Not looking that great for Stui's two boys unfortunately :?

You'd have to feel sorry for anyone who gets delisted after the trade & draft periods.

My only question with that is regarding Hudson.

He is set to be our nominated rookie uprgraded to the final position on our senior list.

So if this process occurs before or on the day of the rookie draft does that than mean we will be able to have one "live" selection?
