It's not my values system so much as a general observation of the way people behave and their motivations. There's some genuinely psychopathic behaviour out there, but contrary to the presumptions of most people it only accounts for a small fraction of the world's atrocities.stui magpie wrote:David wrote:
I don't know the details of the situation, but I'm just hypothesising that the motivation here might be more than mere greed. People just don't do this kind of stuff because they want a second car.
Here's a thought, don't do that. All that does is overlay your own value system over a situation to try to explain why it happened. It doesn't help in any way shape or form to explain it, as the person is highly unlikely to share your value system.
Just look at the facts as presented, skip the imagination.

Putin: gay people are fine as long as they stay away from children.

Actually he said keep gay and pediphilia propaganda away from children. I'm guessing he means leave your movies at home, or don't flaunt it.David wrote:Putin: gay people are fine as long as they stay away from children.

"You can feel relaxed and calm [in Russia], but leave children alone please," said Putin.
He is linking Homosexuality and Pedophilia, maybe you link the two as well and therefor see what he said as OK. I don't know you I'm just going on the posts I have read.

Did you read it? Yes he said that line but read the paragraphs before and after. You may also like to read the last one about their traditions and culture. Or is Russia exempt from the sympathy other countries get for their weird traditions and cultural beliefs?
Never said it was right or wrong, never said he linked the 2.
And no I don't link the 2, gay doesn't bother me at all, but I don't need to see obvious sexually explicit material of any kind on billboards, and it shits me that kids do. Take the ones on the west gate leading into the city. Take them away and burn them.
but pedophiles I would like to see lined up against a wall and shot.

Thanks to Putin it's illegal to promote non traditional sexual practices in presence of minors in Russia.
So no 'propaganda' is allowed that promotes a gay lifestyle. No street marches, no rainbow T-shirts, no flag waiving, no rainbow car stickers, no magazine articles, no mentions on television or radio (in case kids see any of this). Since kids are basically everywhere it is more or less a blanket ban.
A U.S delegate to the Olympics is Billie Jean King. She has been openly (and proudly gay) for 30 years. She will attend. She will surely at some stage be somewhere near children.
Does her openly gay stance mean she could be construed as promoting a non-traditional sexual lifestyle (and thus face instant arrest)?
She wouldn't need to wave a flag or start a march, or even say anything. She is already a gay icon. Her mere presence may be enough to get her arrested.
How stupid are laws like these?? Putin is a drongo of the highest order.
There are too many laws based on hate that hide behind some notion of
"culture" still around.

Billie Jean King to me is a champion sports star, what she does in her bedroom is her business. I don't need to read it on her t shirt, any more than she needs to see my sex life written on mine. is it necessary to "promote" (your word, not mine) any kind of lifestyle at all during the Olympics, except maybe a healthy one? shouldn't her tshirt be the Olympic colours if she is representing them, or the USA colours if going as a US ambassador? where does a rainbow come into it?
the Olympics is about sport and teams spirit, why does sex have to come into it at all?
its none of our business what their laws are, it doesn't effect us.
if only the down trodden, disrespected third world woman of the world had the army behind them like the gay community, the world would be a much better, safer place.
funny how no one seems to object having to bow to the "cultural bullshit" dished up by some countries, and yet carry on all unnecessary for others!
do we need a gay Olympics now? isn't it all about everyone from every race colour creed and sex orientation having a go together? doesn't making someone stand out because of a difference defeat the purpose?
what I really want to know I guess is
"why are we even talking about it?"
