Well said David because no one has used that term but Stui.

As Swoop said replace the word gay with Black and see how fair enough it really is.

This is pretty absurd:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-01-20/n ... ce/5207600
Nauru's justice system has been thrown into chaos after its chief justice and only magistrate - both Australian citizens - were barred from the country.

The country's solicitor-general, Steven Bliim, has now tended his resignation and the ABC believes a Melbourne-based solicitor has this morning arrived in the Pacific nation to preside as magistrate.

On Sunday morning, Nauru's president Baron Waqa fired resident magistrate and supreme court registrar Peter Law.

"I was found by the police... [they] came to my place and arrested me because they demanded I be on the first plane out of Nauru," he told ABC's AM program.

Mr Law says he was forced out of the country.

"I'd get better treatment in the Congo, you know, because I seriously was jostled and pushed by the arresting officer, it was quite unpleasant," he said.

Chief Justice Geoffrey Eames had intervened by issuing an injunction against Mr Waqa's deportation of Mr Law, but that was ignored.

Not only was Mr Law put on a plane back to Australia, the president then cancelled Justice Eames' visa, preventing him from returning to Nauru to deal with the matter.

No, it was actually aimed at you, not David. While not actually calling TP a homophobe you seemed to me to be reading things into her comments that for mine, weren't there. David's thread about confirmation bias is timely as, IMO, people's ability to read into an article what they want to read is a great example of it.

To date the Russians have spent US$51 billion in putting on the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
$51 billion in a country where millions live in poverty.
That's double what was spent on the London Summer Games. The Summer Games have four times the athletes, three times the number of events, and twice the number of venues, but they have doubled that expenditure at Sochi.
$51 billion is more cost than every other Winter Olympic Games COMBINED!!
And holding the Games in the Caucasus would be akin to the UK attempting to host the Olympics in Northern Ireland in the 1970's. You've got 40,000 police and army drafted in for security as a result.
How on earth is all this worth the money and effort.
WTF Vladimir?

(except damn cricket  )

and yes its too much money, but so is everything else deemed frivolous.

the grand prix for example,

but id rather the money spent there than on ugly oil paintings like blue poles

I don't know why the Russkies bother. Half of them are in Thailand on holidays. They put the Ugly Aussies and Yanks to shame. Walking around the streets bare chested drinking out of large beer bottles and clogging up footpaths. And will push in at markets demanding prices from staff who are clearly occupied with someone else (usually me). I think half the money will be spent on manner lessons, well it should be. And as for the mature Vulgar Olgas on the beaches swilling vodka and wearing totally inappropriate swimwear Ugghh
Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.

Hey, no probs T.P.

Like you I love watching sport, Olympics included. These Games will probably be a great success. But the storm clouds (but not any snow clouds) are gathering worldwide about these Sochi Games.

The IOC are worried. They don't want their image tarnished by such blatant corruption. Even the IOC themselves have estimated that $30 billion of the $51 billion spent so far has been siphoned off by corruption.

They are gravely concerned over the costs. The overall cost blowout is shown by the cost compared to the last two Games; Vancouver $9 billion, London $14 billion. How in the hell can Sochi cost $51 billion?

Critics are saying you could hold it on the moon for cheaper!

It's so crazy holding it in the only part of Russia that can't guarantee snow. But Putin and his mates have personally invested heavily in this Black Sea area and are prepared to waste billions of state money to turn their little area into a Russkie version of Las Vegas/Costa Brava. They are using the Olympics to build up and showcase their own private investments. They have also spent state money on securing the F1 Grand Prix in Sochi for the next 7 years. Could they be anymore blatant!!

They have even stored away 16 million cubic meters of snow in enormous insulated bunkers to use at Sochi. I mean this is Russia and they picked a warm place and have stored away a mountain of snow at enormous state cost! What's up Vladimir, you couldn't find a place in Russia that has snow in winter??

That part of the Black Sea wasn't even part of Russia until they invaded and took it in the 1860's. I'm sure no one here gives a toss, but EVERYONE down their in the Caucasus still does. No worries, just pour 40,000 troops down there for the Games. It is a volatile part of the world. Not the sort of place to hold an Olympic Games.

So I will be watching as I enjoy the Olympics. But these ones are different. Never has a dodgier place, a dodgier bunch of people or a dodgier waste of money ever been used in associated with the Olympics. (OK I'll accept 1936 wasn't too flash). This lot should never have been given them. But they are on and I'll watch, but there is an enormous back story attached this time around.

Sorry guys, looks like I've been a bit hard on Putin. Some of his best friends are gay:

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/j ... tin-russia
When Marr got Putin one-on-one briefly, he again raised the gay issue. Putin insisted he had no personal problem with gay people: "If you want to know what I personally think about this, a person's sexual orientation actually does not make any difference to me. I know a few of them, and I am on friendly terms with some of them."
I would never usually endorse violence, but if he were to be sniped from a grassy knoll I wouldn't be terribly sad.

Even when he was in his prime, he was no oil painting. If they didn't shave him down before a shoot he was covered in fur.

But, he had (and still has) the necessary equipment for a bloke to be in porn, none of it involves looks.

Besides, his signature move meant the female couldn't actually see him (I'm sure that was a bonus for them) so they could go mentally where they wanted.
