A Melbourne man has lost his license after a thief who stole his car three years ago started racking up speeding fines.
Tom Kimball filed a police report back in December 2010 when his car was stolen from a train station in Melbourne's west.
When his insurance company paid him out and he was issued a disposal form, Mr Kimball thought he would have nothing else to do with the car.
But he was issued with three speeding fines last year, which were all connected to the stolen vehicle.
"My licence has been suspended," he told A Current Affair.
"I don't think he cared how fast he was going but I ended up with the tickets."
Mr Kimball, who worked in law enforcement for nine years in the United States, has been fighting the fines but has not been able to prevent his license from being revoked.
"When I got the first speeding fine I had wrote on the back that I didn't own the car, it had been stolen and that was sent to civic compliance. Their response was that I must provide the name of the driver of the vehicle," he said.
"I told them on several occasions 'how can I provide the name of the driver when the car was stolen?'. If I knew the name I would give it to the police so they could go and arrest the guy."
The Victorian Department of Justice said Mr Kimball filled out the correct paper work for one of the fines but it was not done correctly in the other two instances.
"In each instance that someone receives a fine, they must nominate that a car has been stolen or they were not the driver," the department said in a statement.
"This was not done in all instances in this case."
The department will revoke Mr Kimball's suspension when he files the paperwork correctly.

Ugandan president signs anti-gay law
Uganda's president has signed a controversial anti-gay bill that allows harsh penalties for "homosexual offences", calling them "mercenaries" and "prostitutes".
Yoweri Museveni on Monday signed the bill, which holds that homosexuals be jailed for long terms, outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays.
He denounced gays and spoke in lurid detail about sexual activity while signing one of the world's toughest anti-gay laws, which has come under fierce criticism from the US president, Barack Obama, who has warned that ties between Kampala and Washington would be damaged.
"Homosexuals are actually mercenaries. They are heterosexual people but because of money they say they are homosexuals. These are prostitutes because of money," Musaveni said.
He added "there is something really wrong with you" if you were gay, adding that he didn't understand how a man could "fail to be attracted to all these beautiful women and be attracted to a man".
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Uganda's minister for ethics and integrity, Simon Lokodo, said that homosexuality was "contrary to the order of nature and therefore it is illegal".
He said he could teach gay people to be straight, and had done so.

Someone showed me one of those little "factoids" that marketing people print on bottle tops and lollies and - as in this case - a packet of Tally-ho cigarette papers.
Did you know that Australia, has more reptile species than any other continent? (Complete with illustration.)
Well, no, I didn't know that. But one thing I do bloody know is that the bloke who designed the thing is a moron. The picture, designed to show an example reptile, was a farnarkling frog!

I have 1/2 a dozen 1/2 used packets of tally ho lying around and not 1 of them has any factoids or pictures of farknarkling frogs.

100% certain, Three. Shame I didn't take a picture of it. But I did jot down the wording, which I misquoted from memory before. It says: Australia has the greatest number of reptiles of any country with 756 species. And the illustration was most certainly a frog.
