Got a phone call from the PA of the Managing Director of the company I work for requesting my attendance at a meeting with said MD. I'm a bit suspicious as this company has been calling me in every few months for shitty disciplinary things so much so I joined the union to protect myself.
The PA could give me no reason for this meeting so I made the time for later today and then called the union although no one was available I was advised that I must be informed what the meeting is about and they must invite me to bring someone in with me. The PA called back and apparently the MD just wants to ask me about 1 boundary issue and also that I'd mentioned to one of the after hours workers that the training organization this company uses are not overly impressed with said companies practices. I cancelled today's meeting and will wait for them to send me a request in writing.
When I was first employed a group of us were put through a cert 3 course and we found out later that we were meant to getting paid for our time in class but the Company made it clear they had no intention of paying us. One of the ladies pushed via Fairwork and we not only got paid for the last 6 classes as well we got some back-pay but the company made it clear they were not happy. The Company have since asked the Training Company to short cut the medication units for those still doing the course, this is against the law and one of the reasons the Trainers refer to this company as the "Heidelberg Heights" of companies in the industry we are in.
I moved onto to do more training with Cert 4 and this Company refuses to sign off on the hours I need to have done to complete the course because I did it off my own bat the Company do not want me or any of us to progress further.
Time to move on I think.

Stingy , of course they should pay for training if it's going to benefit the company. Still I'd have my resume ready! And kick that after hours worker in the ..., but then you shoulda shut up! Your gunna whinge, go to the boss every time!

Office parties are going the way of the dodo. In my last few years at work they got worse and most people shot off at the first opportunity to go shopping or go home. The dynamics have changed. People only know each others families via Facebook. We had an afterwork dinner for 8 of us at a restaurant and the Director called the boss in and read him the riot act. In that year we had one social function and I was told not to attend (I was on sick leave with depression). Luckily he made an off the cuff sexist and racist remark about an asian lady and it was overheard and he was moved but not removed.
Years ago I remember going to social footy matches with Dad and Mum between the TAB and CUB where a few thousand would turn up. Free BBQ and beer and soft drinks and icecream. I doubt they have had one for years.

The apparent " disappearance" of MH 370 - no distress signal, 5 checked in but failed to board so their luggage was removed, 2 on stolen passports who seem to have been travelling together and booked through China. Southern Air and military radar apparently recording the plane attempted to turn back and despite 11 countries searching no sign of it.

The family of a passenger on the missing Malaysia Airlines flight successfully rang his mobile phone - but nobody answered.
This video shows the moment relatives of a Chinese man among the 239 people feared dead after the passenger jet mysteriously disappeared rang his phone live on state television.
The call connected, but then rang out.
Chinese media reports that a number of families have been able to ring mobile phones of their missing loved ones but no one answers.
The development raises even more questions about what has happened to flight MH370.

It's an airliner crash. It happened a long way from anywhere, part way through a six-hour flight, much of it over water far from land, and now nobody knows what went wrong or where it came to grief. These things happen. Always have, always will - but thankfully much less often than in the past.
Maybe it was terrorist related, maybe it wasn't, who can say? The Boeing 777 is a superbly engineered aircraft and Malaysia Airlines are a very competent, highly professional outfit. We can pretty much rule out the most common cause of air accidents, which is human error on the part of the crew due to circumstance, bad procedures, bad training, or poor communication, because these things only really apply where there are external factors to trigger them (typically traffic, weather, and/or terrain). Simply, on that portion of the flight, there wasn't a great deal for the crew to do anyway, bar monitor the systems and wait for the start of their busy time, which is when they enter more heavily trafficed airspace and start preparing for landing.
We can be fairly confident that whatever happened, happened fast. From cruising altitude, it takes quite a long time to crash into the sea, and there was no mayday broadcast. This strongly suggests a catastrophic failure of some kind.
We are left with two main possibilities: either it was deliberate (a bomb or similar), or else it was a sudden failure of one of the very many different crucial components in the aircraft. Precisely because these components are crucial, they are very carefully designed, exhaustively tested, and inspected regularly even on a bad airline, and Malaysia Airlines is a good airline with excellent training and standards. In short, a sudden, catastrophic structural failure is highly unlikely. But, of course, modern airlines (especially modern airliners in a well-run professional airline) hardly ever crash, and practically never without some sort of warning - so the one thing we can be sure of is that the cause of this disaster was something unlikely.
