We should then rest Grundy deep forward when not rucking to try and keep there key defenders accountable for a player.
Lonergan has been all over our big guys in recent years, including Dawes. Get's away with holding the player and not playing the ball and often gets a free after being on the end of some brute strength from our big men. Doubt the supposed new rules will make any difference. Poor old Clokey I'm sure will cop it again.

I wonder if we should give Adams a run with role on Selwood and send Macaffer to Johnson?

Don't disagree which is why I highlighted his flexibility, just think the list of possible outs is short and he'd be near the top of the list given performance to date. The 2 definite outs are defenders so that doesn't open an opportunity for Witts who I think needs to come in.

the selection panel have some gap filling to
do this week. as our defenders are wrapped up
in bandages this week our depth will be tested
and Geelong will try to exploit this and rest there
gun midfielders up forward in exchange of other
gun midfielders. the experience and fitness of our
mids will need to be on show again this weekend
with important roles from Lumbumba retrieving and
Sidey receiving as back men. if Maxy can play his
one man zone again, great, because with
our best one on one defender in Brown out, a hard one
to replace as Keefe just doesn't and Frosty will have
his hands full with doing exactly that.
no second chances

if you look at who we have that isnt hurt, i think the team pretty miuch picks itself this week, with the only question for us to decide is whether we bring in Keefe or a small option (Fas or Armstrong). I just dont know how bucks could go for a small option given team balance so i think Keefe will get the nod.

Here is the team (forget positioning preferences).

Tooves Keefe Maxwell
Langdon Frost Young
Harry Macaffer Sidebottom
Beams White Adams
Elliot Cloke Swan

Grundy Pendles Ball

Goldsack, Blair, Dwyer
Sub: Kennedy

That is still a highly competitive side.

It is missing - Reid, Sinkers, Brown, Williams, Seedsman, Scharenberg, Freeman, J Thomas, Keneziz, Broomhead and Oxley (all apparently injured and not considered)

It is also missing - Fasolo, Armstrong, Witts, Clarke, Lynch, Marsh and Ramsey (considered but couldnt make the team).

Am i missing anyone?

^^^ Mooney & Hudson but still a good summary of the status of play.

Has Mooney been promoted?

I just read on the AFL site that our VFL team plays the AIS Academy team on Friday night as a curtain raiser to the Hawks and Freo. Would have been great to have that as a curtain raiser to our own game. It's a 4.20pm Friday arvo start so there'll be bugger all there to watch. Would have been great for all on Saturday.

Frost or Keefe on Porkins?

I dont think Frost is strong enough as The fatso is generally a contested mark more so than an atheltic lead up beast like Buddy.

Thinking Keefe but Brown would have been ideal or Reid.

Frosty played Clokey pretty well in the intra clubs so he will probably get first crack. Keeffe played on him in NAB challenge 1 & had 4 goals kicked on him.

Agree, poor fixturing by the powers that be. And how do Pies supporters get in to watch the VFL practice match? Maybe they think it'll boost crowd numbers.

I reckon this is where we'll miss Brown the most. He's easily our best option against the stronger forwards. Frost, like Reid, is better against the more athletic types. Will be interesting to see if we give the job to Keeffe or Frost. I'd lean towards Keeffe, but they may have one of their dud rucks up forward who he would be perfect for.
Well done boys!

People seem to be ignoring the fact they'll likely have Mitch Brown forward as well.

I stand to be corrected but I think that you have to pay for the senior game ticket to watch the practice match prior to it. It would have made far more sense for Collingwood fans if it was held before Saturday's Collingwood senior game but we ARE talking about the AFL here.......
And I do wonder why Eddie didn't protest about this scheduling???
