Great news that Clinton Young has not suffered a ban, and has been given the all clear for Friday night. If Marley's ankle is OK I believe that he should be Fasolo's replacement... he has been maintaining his fitness and we all know his outstanding ability to play that role. Match practice will only benefit him.
If Marley can't play, then we shouldn't play Armstrong if his form in the VFL has not been excellent. Nor should Marty Clarke play. Instead we could select another midfielder (Sam Dwyer probably ahead of Taylor Adams) and rotate various midfielders through the defence (Steele S, Tyson G, Jamie Elliott, etc).
If conditions are wet, and the ground slow, then I think the Witts/Grundy combination will be good, as these two guys are still very young and it is hard for either one of them to last by himself for the whole game. In addition, if we are playing another midfielder through defence, we certainly will have added pace to compensate for the lack of it with the two ruckmen.

You do make a point about Elliott. He seemed to spend quite a bit of time down in defense last week. He could be part of the replacement for Fasolo. Though, being clearly our best small forward, I wouldn't want him spending too much time away from attack.

Great memories there Bat. But five goals notwithstanding, Elliot played a far better game just this week. Carlton last year were hopeless: they just wouldn't man him up. My cat follows me around the house all day than Carlton stayed with Elliott. - and he made them pay!

But last week, Elliott played all over the ground and got a ton of hard balls, saving goals and giving us drive. His last quarter in particular, when Essendon were charging back with a serious challenge, was outstanding.

Smash the scum and tear them a new one. Not sure we'll see Marley back this week, I would say it would be more like Brown if we're going for a straight defensive replacement. They have some big forwards who need to be contained and Brown would be an ideal inclusion, if he's fit and ready to go.

leave it be dave. i have a lot of time for the likes of armstrong and yagmoor. they are busting their gut for the club. their abilities may not be up there with some of our best but it takes all types to establish a strong team and club.

armstrong has fitted into the club very well. ripper bloke too. so is yags.
Ripper Blokes does not mean you get a game in the 1sts
Going to a VFL game or two and then taking baseless swipes at a bloke from behind a computer screen doesnt make you a footballing guru either mate.

Speaking of the vfl, I have finally sat through the replay on Iview.

Based purely on this match alone ( which I concede is only a snap shot of form) I made the following observations:

* the loss of Q Stick is a massive hit to our depth. His first 2 and a half quarters before going off injured were excellent. We best hope 2 of White, Cloke and Reid stay fit at any given time.

* Good to see a few of the returning players from injury. Seedsman was way undercooked and needs a few more runs. Karnezis was pretty solid all day. His last qtr was great. He looked more comfortable Down back and running through the midfield but I was surprised to see he had managed to boot 4 majors for the day. Brown was solid hardly saw him but hardly saw his opponent either.

* Sam Dwyer was good all day though he did seem to fade a little in the last. And for mine he's ahead on a call up for senior selection from anyone else with Taylor Adams a close second who without shinning was solid. (Almost pulled in mark of the year.

*all that said Marley Williams was a class above everyone out there. Ok so he didn't get as much of the ball as some but what he did do shone brightly. If his ankle is ok and if he's mentally ok they simply must select him ASAP. A lot of ifs there I know but he was great. Love to know what his efficiency was as it looked 100%.

* lastly Martin was terrific. Has certainly put his hand up but I wonder what his other matches and recent forms been like? I'm a big fan of his however and have been for the last 18 months. Be good if they could find a spot for him to give him a run but unless his other matches have been great too I'd hold off till after the bye and try him out then.

So possible ins against Carlton based on that:

Dwyer, Williams, Brown. That would be the three I'd choose from.

Do we have any new word on the Young / Fas injuries. Youngs has not been spoke of much.
No Pressure, No Diamonds

They used to be a happy team at hawthorn.

^^Young has a corky. They're saying he'll be right to play.

Fas has a toe injury and is expected to miss just one week, but they're treating it carefully due to his history of foot problems.

When considering the injury history of each player I was pretty pessimistic about their injuries on Anzac day. This is a great outcome.

Ditto it would be a fantastic outcome. I saw him on crutches and assumed the worst (young)

If anyone comes in for Fas I would go with Dwyer, He has points on the board and has done well against the filth.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Young gets up for this game but I don't think he will.
