The scoreboard flattered us big time, Hawks outs were as significant as ours and umpiring had no impact on the game whatsoever apart from that one dodgy throw call that cost us one goal.
Buckley has now tried the same game plan against the Hawks five times straight, we seemed to change it a bit and slow play the ball when the game was over which was hilarious to see if you like black humour like I do.
Langdon going down so early didn't help but he was really struggling up to that point.
Having said that I'm not scathing of our performance as we did as well as we possibly could.
Will post more thoughts after seeing the replay, should be fun.

From yesterdays game
Average Games Experience: Hawthorn 113 - Pies 87,
Players with less than 50 games: Hawthorn 6 - Pies 11,
Less than 50 games Hawthorn: Litherland, Ceglar, Ross, Dureyea, Spangher & Hill
Less than 50 games Pies: Broomhead, Langdon, Frost, Witts, Thomas, Dwyer, Williams, Keeffe, Seedsman, Adams & Elliott
When all the players from both sides have reached 50 games, who has more scope for improvement?

You could almost script that. Pies to stay in the game until Hawks go bang, bang, bang.... in 5 mins of footy. Always felt like we were just hanging in there, even when we got close. We'll get better but not soon enough. I'm certain we'd be sitting in the top 4 right now if Ben Reid was available all year. Defence has been sterling without being settled but our rucks are vulnerable and the forward line needs another dimension. Not enough polish in the midfield it would seem too.

I think the reaction of Nathan is the build up of three years worth of frustration over Witts. I remain very concerned over the ruck situation at Collingwood. (Nothing new there I suppose, a couple of good years from Jolly but then I'm going back to the Monkhorst days for any joy)watt price tully wrote:

corruption and conspiracy.qldmagpie67 wrote:The guys tried but were outclassed by a side who has basically been playing together for 5 yrs. Yes they had Mitchell and Gibson out but basically the rest are in or very close to the best 22.
In comparison we have 11 injured players + 1 suspended and of those you would think 6 or 7 are in our best 22.
Losing Langdon didn't help our cause at all. We just can't seem to get a trick with the injury gods.
Week in week out we have a make sift backline with it changing each week.
Same as our 22 always seems we are making 2 or 3 changes each week we can't seem to get any consistency in our 22 for players to get used to each other.
With Swanny below his best most of the season and Blair being a waste of oxygen recently and White appearing to be non interested at times it leaves some massive holes in our team.
When you have 6 or 7 of your best 22 out you can't afford to have anyone not playing well or being a passenger.
Today we probably had 4 or 5 guys who played well below what could be expected.
The umpires will never give us a fair go so get used to it. Been happening for years and won't change.
A few of our players may be close to the end of there careers or simply not up to AFL standard.
Ball has been a great servant but his days are now numbered. Can't fault his heart but his lost that yard of pace (and for a guy who doesn't have a heap of it losing 1 yard hurts) he looks a step behind now.
Young players are being thrown to the wolves each week out of necessity at the moment and have done all year. Time will tell if this is a great learning curve or to much pressure early in there careers. I'm confident it's a great investment on our future.
So we move forward again to next week and hope the injury gods start to smile on us soon.
I don't want to make a harsh comment about the coach but this is really his 1st year coaching a team his way with his players.
Thus far we have seen a change in game styles but our consistency has been very ordinary including when we were winning.
I think Bucks needs some really inspiration soon if we keep having to chop and change players weekly.
The draw this year like the past several years doesn't do us any favours but when you are consistently in the 8 you get a harder draw and unfortunately for us it's coming at a time we are trying to implement a new game plan and several young players with under 20 games (a recipe for disaster)
I'm serious.
I can't help but wonder whether how this kind of thing would be accepted at an international level.
I don't believe in 'injury gods'. Yes, there is some lack of luck involved sometimes, but unfortunately our players cop more a battering each week because the opposition get away with it more than us.
No accountability for the actions of the AFL, the umpires or the media when it comes to this game. Just look at the rubbish going on with Essendon as a prime example.

Seriously, seriously.
The sh.t on this forum.
The average age of our defence is 12 years old. And then we lose one of the 12 year olds.
Sack Jesse White, sack Blair, sack Harry - f... Off Richmond supporters.
We are genuinely building something.

Bucks has said himself there is lots of improvement left in Witts, think I'll back his opinion. Witts was clearly the best of the four rucks today.R_T_RUSH wrote:I think the reaction of Nathan is the build up of three years worth of frustration over Witts. Re: Hey
I'll agree with you on this Inky. And I wish we would stop drafting midgets and injury prone kids (every AFL insider knew about Scharenberg's history of injuries).AN_Inkling wrote:I won't claim racism, but the difference between us and other clubs seems too stark for it to simply be circumstance. I'd say it's more to do with the types of player we target. We may be the only club not to have played an indigenous player in the past two years, and have not even taken a punt with one of our later picks.

The Hawks have been thereabouts since 1961 (11 flags last time I checked). We have to stop talking about promise (which is rarely fulfilled) and go for the NOW (e.g. Sydney bought Tippett and Buddy = Flag in 2014).Born to Pie wrote:From yesterdays game

Armstrong and Yagmoor are the token aboriginals on our list. Harry is not aboriginal. How many games have aboriginals played for Collingwood in the past 10 years?Big T wrote:Love the last minute panic and subsequent recruiting of Armstrong.swoop42 wrote:Our list.Hiss wrote: "Racist recruiting'? Re: Hey
Frankly I'd fill our team with Martians if it would win us a flag. I would like a few genuine tough nuts though. Who were the last at Collingwood? Denis Banks and Gavin Brown? Most of the time we go for players as soft as butter. Sorry, but we do.What'sinaname wrote:Armstrong and Yagmoor are the token aboriginals on our list. Harry is not aboriginal.
