round 22 transfer

Post by afisher »

well lets all book it up

The AFL wishes to advise the Round 22 match between the Kangaroos and Collingwood, previously scheduled for the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday September 2, will now be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

AFL Football Operations Manager Andrew Demetriou said the Kangaroos had approached the AFL with the request to move the match following the success of their move into the Canberra market this year.

He said the AFL was happy to shift the game and wanted to provide as much notice as possible to supporters from both clubs who were planning to attend the game.

KANGAROOS CONFIRM GAME SWITCH

The Kangaroos, in conjunction with the Australian Football League and the ACT Government, today announced that the club's round 22 match against Collingwood, previously scheduled for the Sydney Cricket Ground, would now be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The move comes as a result of the Kangaroos request to continue the success of their move this season into the Canberra market by taking two of the nations' highest profile teams to the national capital.

Kangaroos Chief Executive Greg Miller said the game would provide one of the real highlights of the AFL season.

"The Kangaroos are unbeaten in Canberra, Collingwood has the biggest supporter base of any club in Australia and there's a real chance both sides will be fighting for a finals berth", Miller said.

ACT Deputy Chief Minister Brendan Smith was delighted at the news of the move and was grateful to all parties concerned for the opportunity to have more AFL in Canberra.

"We are particularly excited that this will be the last game of the last round of the AFL season and may have a real bearing on the make up of the Final 8", Mr Smith said.

"Thankfully the AFL agreed to the Kangaroos request and see shifting the game as an ideal opportunity to continue the promotion of the code in the ACT region".

AFL General Manager of Operations, Andrew Demetriou, said the AFL was confident the football and sporting fans from right around the ACT region would l continue to embrace the Kangaroos and in particular the big game against Collingwood.

The Kangaroos also confirmed that a special two game ticket would go on sale immediately, guaranteeing patrons entry into both the Kangaroos v Port Adelaide match and the Collingwood game.

"For $49 fans can guarantee themselves entry and the same reserved seat for both matches. All they need to do is contact the Club", Miller said.

"People who already hold an Aussie Roos Membership will also have access to the Collingwood game at no additional cost and may utilise their existing reserved seat", Miller said.

The Kangaroos v Collingwood match will be played at Manuka Oval on Sunday, September 2nd.

The special 2 game ticket can be purchased by phoning 1800 00 7667.

the AFL and the Poos are farking pricks!! they have cost me $135, that was how much my airplane ticket to sydney cost, and it's non refundable and can't be exchanged. bastards pricks wankers a-holes twats dirty filthy SOBs!!! don't the wankers know that 2 and a half months is not enough for some people to plan for trips like this?? I had to buy early to take advantage of the cheap airfares as well as to get time off work, now the twats have gone and ruined everything!! I was so looking forward to sydney....the footy match as well as being able to see the city. now we have to go buy some porno's in canberra. I know of other pie supporters who've been screwed like this. %$^ I am so mad....I'm going to write letters to AFL footy operations manager andrew demetriou, the Poos' CE greg miller and ACT deputy chief minister brendan smith.....I'm going to let them know eactly what I think of them. I think it's a conspiracy...I bought my tickets from Qantas, oh HANG ON they're also known as the flying kangaroo right???? I want to meet greg miller so that I can bitch slap him, he is such a dog!! why play at a 15000 capacity mudbowl when you can play at a nice ground like the SCG?? it makes no sense! miller said, it's because the Poos are unbeaten there...well, I hope the pies thrash the living shite out of north then, just for spite, collingwood should buy all the Poo shares then sell off their players and their runting club!!!!

motherf**kers!!!!!

You can still go, it' just that you'll have to take a bus from Sydney to Canberra on match day.

unfortunately that won't work for me dantheman, my flight was scheduled to leave sydney at 8.30pm on the sunday and there's no way I could have made it back on time. I'm with mags, let's let the AFL know what we think!! they are the biggest bunch of pricks with absolutely no regard for the fans.

eddie has now gone on the AFL site and said that the pies would have preferred to see the game at colonic or the 'G. I would have liked this better as then I can at least still go to the bloody game! good on eddie he has approached the AFL and pooboys to seek compo for pie fans who will be inconvienced by the move.

the poos, they are such a bitch team, they just have to try to crack into the canberra market. why don't they just get it over and done with and just relocate to canberra and get the f**k out of victoria. I'm still seething....grrrrrrrr

Roos-Pies game better in Melbourne: McGuire
By Chris Lines

Thursday, June 21, 2001

COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire said it would be better to play the round 22 AFL match against the Kangaroos at the MCG than in Canberra.

It was announced today the round 22 match had been switched to Manuka Oval from the SCG as the Roos continued to back away from the Sydney experiment and embrace the ACT as a supporter market.

The MCG, ostensibly the Roos' home ground, was vacant on the day of the game - September 2 - but was foregone in favour of Canberra.

'We would have preferred it to be switched to Colonial or the MCG,' McGuire told AAP.

'The Kangaroos are trying to develop the Canberra market, it's their home game and they have the right to do as they like - we're happy to take them on anywhere.'

McGuire said they could have filled the MCG if both teams were pressing for a finals berth.

'We're used to playing all around the country,' he said.

'What we're not used to is playing in front of 12,000 people - we get that many people to training during the finals.'

The Magpies had already approached the AFL and the Kangaroos, seeking compensation for fans who will be out of pocket and inconvenienced by the switch.

'A significant number of Collingwood supporters, when the fixture was released, bought cut-price tickets to Sydney and bought accommodation around that,' McGuire said.

One small point JunkBoy75. The MCG (Manuka Cricket Ground) is NOT a mudbowl. The surface is pretty damn good and its bigger than the SCG in size (so no easy flooding). I live in Canberra, see everything through black and white eyes, but like you I am not too pleased about the change of venue - I've organised a holiday in QLD during that weekend!!

I can't understand the Roos thinking here - they would have to get a bigger crowd playing Collingwood in Sydney than in Canberra. Surely the SCG can't be that expensive to use? Maybe thats where all the Swans' money goes ....

sorry spitza I did not mean to diss ACT collingwood supporters, I was just so cheesed off at the time. I'm sure manukah is a fine oval. it's just that I am really annoyed at the way the AFL and the roos have acted.

Well im very very disappointed by the decision made by the AFL and the Kangaroos...........I had planned a trip to go to Sydney in ROund 22. As an accountant this was the only interstate game i could attend due to work commitments. I somehow doubt whether i will be able to get a ticket to go now...............12,000 - 15,000 will be sold out easily

Its pretty obvious the AFL wants the grass roots supporters to sit at home and watch the game on TV. Wayne Jackson and others have to remember that this game is for the people. Wayne Jackson only has a caretakers role in running the game and IS NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL OF FOOTY. its about time WAYNKER JACKSON you started listening to the people. How can North v Freo be played at Colonia, yet the Magpie Army are forced to go to Canberra.

Surely Eddie you can put up a bit of a fight...............Going to Optus Oval last year was bad enough. Now we have to go to Manure Oval in Canberra. As supporters i believe we deserve much better treatment than this.

oh boo hoo... poor little rooboys... are they still crying about Sydney's "Boo-a-roo" campaign. Did the little swannies scare you away from playing in Sydney? Poor dears...

Why don't you just close your doors and fold... no wucken forries no one will miss u b@stard roos. Image Image

I am soooo p!ssed about the game moving from the SCG -- it was one game of the pies that I was sure that I was going to be able to attend.

oh, yeah, 15,000 at Manuka will make you more money than 30,000-40,000 at the scg... buy a new abacus u b@stards... it's obvious that you have run out of fingers to count on... oh, what's that... you can't afford one! then take your shoes off u good for nothing rooters. Rooboys, stop your b/s about developing the game in Canberra... you are up sh!t creek without a proverbial paddle wherever you go... even more so after this little stunt imho. why don't u just fold you are just a waste of space.

and don't start me about the af-goodfornothing-l.

man, am I fuming.........

sheesh I would like to take a baseball bat to a roo supporter atm. Image

and I am not finished yet... *seething* even if u haven't lost yet at Manuka, you will lose to our pies there on Sep 2. you can forget your 100% record at Canberra after our pies demolish you. and yes, carey still is a w@nker....
