The Travis Varcoe Deal

Post by BazBoy »

Age newspaper 8th Oct:
A tri angular trade
Harry to Melbourne
Mitch Clarke to Cats
Varcoe to Pies
Varcoe i think would have been in 2009/11 premierships 138 games played
D.O.B 10/4/1988
26yrs 5mths
Height 180cm
Weight 82kg
Wait & see i guess

That,s a question DH & NB could answer
That they check ready mades like Greenwood &;Varcoe currently 25yrs & 26yrs
physicaly & temprement etc.very crucial to end result
If they meet our needs its like for like age wise at least for Harry /Dane
But what i find interesting is the "nobody wants to go to Pies" idea

A no from me, injury prone doesn't do enough. I would say a big yes to the other one that wants out though.

Looks like Brisbane are going to do okay in the trade period.

Just listening to Rocket who says we need more big bodies in midfield
A size comparison with Varcoe and a small at Pies
Jarrod Blair DOB 1990
Height 174 cm --Varcoe 180cm
Weight 81kg-- " " 82
Not another big body

and he is relatively soft by AFL standards.
Not really a big body and not one to throw his weight around nor tackle hard
One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership

I'd gladly take him if he can reproduce his heroics in the 2011 gf.
He was a big factor for the cats being able to win that game.
I suspect they feel that he has passed his best if they are willing to trade him for Clark. He looked like that in the final against north. Maybe a change of scenery can get him back to his best form. If there's a chance of this happening we should take it.

Put Varcoe in the same bracket as Russell, Armstrong, Young, S Buckley... would rather take a chance in the draft.

Heaven forbid... please use the draft pick instead. Varcoe is a ball fumbling dud at best...

Moneyball fail!

P.S-A bit harsh on Young. He was okay this season.

Agree, he showed a bit as did Armstrong when he got his chance. I'm not saying these guys can't play. Just that nearly every supporter anticipates that the kids will force them out of the side, so why draft/trade them if they are never going to be anything other than fringe players. I know you need some senior players around the kids but does it have to be players like this. A player like Varcoe who the Cats seem to throw on the trade table every year is not what we want/need.
