"Just get it done, that'll get done, this will get done"35forever wrote:Look, the way things stand, if Brisbane won't put up a player they won't get Beams. And I hope they don't. It's unlikely that Varcoe and Crisp will play ten games between them, Crisp would do very well in the VFL side and be about 6th in line for a senior gig unless we have another year of injuries, and Varcoe will be like all the other senior blokes Buckley has picked up, Russell, Lynch, Young, I was excited about all three of them and they did nuthin'. I'd add White to that but he's young enough and talented enough to do anything, and I think he will, given the right development.
I've been listening to 'Plow' Wallace on the radio about all this stuff. My God that guy is hopeless! I had no idea! I thought he'd have to know what he's talking about with all his experience, but he's as dumb as a box of hammers! He has no doubt that the Beams deal will be done for 5 & 25, and how dare we ask for more! Another Collingwood hater, and nearly as poor a journalist as Tubby Robinson. And if he says 'stumped up' one more time I'm gonna do a foofer valve!!!
Blokes a fecken muppet.

No, Boyd was a number one pick. He is a massive forward of the brown/reiwolt variety and he has shown in one year what he is capable of.jackcass wrote:My point was that you listed:MJ23 wrote:Exactly right, weve lost a starting 22 now 4 times and Beams probably our second best player.Lazza wrote: The difference is that a Boyd, Aish, Treloar, Shiel coming in will almost definitely enhance the playing group along with the guys you mentioned. A Varcoe and Crisp MIGHT enhance the group but it is not a total certainty.
We need players 2-4 years in the system, proven and capable of making a top 5 b&f
Boyd - drafted 2013
Aish - drafted 2013
Treloar - Concessional draft 2012
Shiel - Concessional draft 2012
And as I said, we've added equally talented kids via those drafts. You're confusing talent with opportunity. Come back in 5 years and tell me how we stack up but these guys are not "big name" recruits regardless of their potential to acheive that. None of them have shown any more than Langdon, Williams or Elliott to date.
Now if you'd said Jack, Boak, Shuey or Bruest I would have paid attention.
Aish as well, two senior premierships and a full season of AFL - something our first round picks last year couldn't do. You know what he will give you.
Treloar and Shiel - watch them. Draft "concessional" do not equate to a value proposition. These blokes have three years of senior footy that players like Kennedy and broom head haven't been able to have. More importantly they have proven to be guns.
Seriously, I love the pies players but to suggest Langdon or Williams are worth a Treloar or Shiel ....I'm not sure you've seen these blokes play.
Yes boak, jack, Bruest would suit the big name I'm talking about.
Shuey though isn't in the same league as these boys.
Either way I'm talking about a 10 year player capable of a top 5 B&F finish NEXT year. Players I've named are.

Yeah. Funny, wasn't it? A lot of people say Leon should have stayed on after the 2011 season. Should have won the 2012 premiership if we kept Leon. That was all Buckley's fault.Rexy17 wrote:Anyone could tear Leon apart in a Final.Piesnchess wrote:Didn't Varcoe play really well against us in the 2011 GF ? I am not averse to Varcoe coming into our side. He has great pace and speed, and he could add that dynamic uncertainty that we desperately need in our midfield. But I don't want him if it means that we effectively give up Beams for Crisp and Pick 5. If we agree to that, then I will truly be ropable and then depressed. How could this even be considered?
I don't know why we are even entertaining possiblilites of "complex 5 sided deals". The transaction of Beams to Brisbane must be considered as totally separate to all other deals. If Brisbane wants Beams, they need to give like for like, not hope that through some contorted set of multiple transactions the Pies could somehow be compensated elsewhere and therefore accept losing Beams for a pittance to them. The only way I could see some complex deal involving other clubs to be viable is if we ended up with someone like Dangerfield. Otherwise it is all nonsense. I hope that we stay firm.

COLLINGWOOD has ticked off a move to bring in big-bodied Brisbane midfielder Jack Crisp as the answer to the Dayne Beams dilemma.
The Magpies have broken the Beams deadlock with an agreement that will net the club picks No. 5, 25 and Crisp from the Lions in exchange for the onball superstar.

GWS is not releasing Boyd for Griffen. Dangerfield is not leaving Adelaide. Bottom line is Beams stays, doesn't gets to see his family, not happy staying at Collingwood unless we convince him otherwise. Alternative is we trade Beams for an experienced hard nut in Greenwood who plays out of the centre. We also get a big bodied mid with potential to improve. We also get a high draft pick at pick 5 to net a gun player.richo wrote:I agree Magpietothemax, a crap trade. How the hell can the club release a statement about ceasing negotiations and then accept this? I'm extremely angry. Boyd for Griffen, Crisp and pick 5 for Beams WTF?

More ordinary-ville for Collingwood.AN_Inkling wrote:Not a great deal but I've made my peace with it. Still waiting to hear the final details, but seems pretty certain we're getting pick 5, Greenwood, Varcoe and Crisp for Beams and Lumumba. Still hoping for another pick as sweetener but not looking likely.
Russell, Young, White, Varcoe.......there's a common link amongst those four.....and it's not wholehearted and passionate.
You won't see any Heater passion or Daisy running at a million miles an hour on the wing in front of the Great Southern Stand in the last qtr of the GF draw in 2010 with 100% commitment towards a contested ball.
Bloody depressing............

Yes, my thoughts exactly, its not a bad deal really, we were never gonna get danger or boyd, but we get a tough nut in the centre, an experienced finals player, and with such a young team we need that, and we get pick five for a gun. Its not what I really hoped, but hey, you have to give something to get it. and look, beams was very good with us, but he never really dominated in Finals, and whilst he had some great games, he had some ordinary ones too, he was not in the class of Pendles IMHO. I think we have done pretty good out of this, and lets not forget we still have sharenberg and freeman to even play one game yet, both top ten picks, we have a lot to be happy about, really.

Let me ask a question. If beams wasn't leaving and only Harry was, do you think we'd still be able to land greenwood with the Harry trade and some draft pick exchanges? I believe we would.
So I take issue with people saying that it's ok because we're getting greenwood in the beams deal.
What we are getting in the beams deal is pick 5, 25 and crisp (rookie draft pick 40) End of story. Which is crap.
Because the deal has been complicated by involving other clubs (which don't be fooled has been orchestrated by Brisbane as a smoke screen) because of this we now lose the pick 25 to get greenwood and we lose beams and Harry. The real sweetner in all of this is varcoe
No matter how much we talk about it, no matter how much I think about It, I still end up at the same conclusion......it's a dead set loss to us as it stands.
Never mind that it was initially pick 4 as well just to salt the wounds a little more.
The only way I'll ever draw any comfort form this trade is if we can land another mid 20's pick, do that and I'll feel compensated. Don't do it and I'll be disappointed with the outcome and the club.
As for dayne and Brisbane who have both screwed us on this one......I reserve my response until I see the deal has been signed.

Let me ask another question if collingwood had pick 5 and 25 would you trade them for dangerfield if it meant throwing in the recently departed Kyle Martin as a kicker.
My guess is you wouldn't be able to sign the papers fast enough.
In effect thats what Brisbane is looking to do / has done.
You tell me who the winners are.
