I don't suppose there's much chance Nakia Cockatoo will be available at pick 30? This kid oozes class, and is very strongly built. He could become an absolute gun player.

I don't know, its all a lottery really. I bet Chris Egan highlights package looked the business, ditto Morrison, but something about Swan made him drop to whatever we got him at.

Who can tell? Any pick is a leap of faith, I'm just excited to see what we get

At 5: Laverde or De Goey. (Unless an unlikely scenario where McCartin falls through)

At 30: McKenzie.

At 48: Langdon.

Assuming we are after a quality midfielder (so leaving aside Wright, McCartin etc), who are the top 4 midfielders you'd like us to consider for our pick 5?

I'm also assuming Petracca and Brayshaw are taken 1-3.

I've been changing my mind a bit lately, but currently my favourites are:

1. Laverde

2. Cockatoo

3. De Goey

4. Weller

It's somewhat surprising that no one seems to be linking us with Pickett.

Now is that correct and we're spooked by the go home factor or not being seen to take another sub 180cm by the masses or are we engaging in a game of bluff with GWS getting them to believe they'll be able to get him with picks 6 or 7?

Can't say definitely but it would seem we are after other types ahead of what Pickett offers.

With that it appears we might be down to two in Laverde and De Goey.

Pickett is clearly a gun player, blessed with an abundance of speed, skill and oodles of X-factor. However, one suspects our club have recruited too many shortish players in recent years - with Elliott, Kennedy, Blair, Thomas, Sinclair and possibly Sidebottom (they all appear short, though in truth I really don't know the actual height of these players) - and so are after bigger bodied midfielders. Laverde, De Goey and possibly Cockatoo have a bit of size to complement their football prowess.

I'd rate them this way (possibly more needs based than it should be; you want the best, not the best that fits a certain role):

1. Laverde
2. Pickett
3. Lamb
4. Weller
5. De Goey
Well done boys!

I'll take Pickett. He's a star. He's got great timing, can be an individual & work well with a team behind him.

On talent alone, I'd probably list Pickett at the head of them all. It's just his size which I suspect will put our club off drafting him. All the suggestions (which may be baseless of course) are that we're after another Pendlebury type midfielder. That requires someone at least 185 cms with a touch of class. Lamb looks a good size, but there's nothing silky about him - he just looks like a good solid player to my eye (I noticed he missed his first 3 shots on goal in his highlights package!). If we really want a good size mid fielder with spades of X-factor, and GWS beat us to Laverde, then I reckon Nakia Cockatoo would be a great choice, followed by De Goey. Then again wtfwik?

Laverde is probably the only player I'd take over Wright and even then it's only because we're getting Moore.

We've taken plenty of midfield/flanker types over the last couple of seasons and are yet to even see Freeman, Karnezis and Scharenberg make there senior debuts for the club (throw in Crisp, Marsh as well) so I'm not as worried if we take Wright at 5 in preference over some more midfield depth or outside run.

Plenty of talented midfield/flanker types will still be found at 30 this year and even at 48.

In terms of pure talent it's a difficult choice between Laverde & Pickett for me, De Goey is only slightly behind both these guys.

In regards to big bodies, did we not just bring in Greenwood & Crisp?

I have a feeling GWS will take Laverde, therefore I'd be more than happy with Pickett, obviously the go home factor is worrying.

Pretty sure Wright is a Collingwood supporter.

Don't know starting to warm to the big fella again.

Midfielders can be found every year and some gems will always be available in later rounds.

Elite big men however generally go top 10 and in a lot of cases top 5.

I think we might be stupid to not select Wright at pick 5 to be honest.
